On December 14, 2024, Japanese animation studios Kaka Creation and Frontier Works unveiled their first series, Twins Hinahima anime, set to be released in Spring 2025. The anime series is based on a TikTok user of the same user and uses 'supportive Artificial Intelligence.'

No staff members were revealed or announced alongside the announcement of the anime but it was claimed that the regular staff members were involved with the production of the series. The anime also released a trailer featuring the series' production.

The Twins Hinahima trailer commended with a focus on the series' protagonist which was followed by the character designs. The trailer then showcased an animator drawing different panels for the series. A dance sequence, involving the two protagonists, was then showcased, followed by a reveal of how human motion was also converted into animation for the production of Twins Hinahima anime.

The animation series is scheduled for Spring 2025 (April-June) and is yet to reveal any staff members or voice casting. However, the series' trailer claimed that the staff members who are part of producing Netflix's anime-original series would be part of the Twins Hinahima anime (including animators, cinematographers, and animators).

Throughout the series trailer, it was stated that the anime used 'supportive AI (artificial intelligence)' for its production. Additionally, Kaka Creation and Frontier Works, Twins Hinahima anime's animation studio, has stated on their website that there is still a large gap between animators and AI but the latter could be used to lower the burden of animation (thus reducing the burden of industry professionals).

Moreover, the anime would use 'supportive AI' for 95% of its production with a singular person responsible for making final edits (as seen from the animator making designs in the trailer). Other than the 'supportive AI,' the anime also uses some other Photoshop tools.

The anime is a fantasy series centered around two high school girls who just entered their first year. These two girls aim to get famous by posting videos on the online streaming platform, Tiktok.

As their daily lives pass, they realize that their pictures have something eerie inside them. Is it something sinister that might be following them or could this be the start of their new lives?

Final thoughts

The use of AI for anime production has been controversial but it was expected that it would get used to make an anime soon. The Twins Hinahima anime is a prime example of what the fans were expecting and it would be 'interesting' to see how it turns out.
