Future Folktales season 2 previews new setting and stories alongside release date in new promotional videos
The first promotional video for Future Folktales season 2 runs for 70 seconds, and features no dialogue whatsoever. The only audio heard is a song, which is presumably from the series’ official soundtrack, and select sound effects for the scenes playing out. Focus is given to the area of Neom, as well as the contemporary characters and those from seemingly fantastical and historical stories that will be told in the season.
The second promotional video runs for 16 seconds and features dialogue from Naomi Ozora as Maha. As the dialogue continues, additional scenes of the contemporary characters and those from the stories that will be told are seen. The text on the screen also reveals the November 3 premiere date for the second season in Japan.
Returning cast for Future Folktales season 2 includes Masako Nozawa as Asmaa, Naomi Ozoro as Maha, Sachiko Kojima as Rayan, Megumi Urawa as Sultan, Ai Maeda as Anis, Mie Sonozaki as Mama, and Masaya Takatsuka as Papa. Hideaki Yoshio and first-season director Masami Shimoda are directing the series at Manga Productions and Toei Animation. New scriptwriter Hiroshi Yamaguchi joins Yoshifumi Fukushima, Ryuu King, Uiko Kudo, and Toshio Yoshitaka.
Original character designers include Mernan Behri, Sara Alhazmy, Sara Oulddaddah, Atheer Alkubayer, Abdullah Alhusaynan, Jude Ganag, and Hamidah Hamadah. Yuko Matsui, Shin’ya Takahashi, Atsushi Yamagata, Satoshi Hirayama, Yoru Ogino, Koki Murao, Fadel Dahnim, Hajime Matsuzaki, and Riyadh Waleed are adapting these designs for animation.
The anime’s first season premiered in Japan in April 2020, running for 13 episodes. The series streamed and aired in more than 40 countries and regions, gaining 70 million international viewers. HIDIVE streamed the first season in North America, with Sentai Filmworks currently planning a home video release.
The first season was set in 2050 Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and focused on a grandmother named Asmaa telling her children the region’s most beloved folktales. The children’s robotic cat Anis helps the children to learn that their contemporary issues are no match for generational words of wisdom learned through these stories.
