Wednesday, July 10, 2024, saw some of the questions and answers from the recent Gege Akutami JUJUTSU KAISEN Exhibition in Shibuya Hikarie, Japan, begin to be translated and shared. Per this latest information, it seems Gege has confirmed that the manga is indeed in its final arc with the ongoing 'Shinjuku Showdown arc'. While fans had theorized this for quite some time, this confirmation from Akutami marks the first.

The news comes from X user and reputable general series news source @eagle97jjk (alen), whose translations were verified by reputable series leaker @Go_Jover (Myamura). Likewise, while these are technically unofficial translations, they’re likely accurate in the larger picture of Akutami confirming the Shinjuku Showdown arc as the manga's last.

Shinjuku Showdown is Jujutsu Kaisen’s last arc, but could be broken down into Culling Game-style subarcs

That being said, the 'Shinjuku Showdown arc' being Jujutsu Kaisen’s last doesn’t quite mean the series will end as soon as Sukuna is defeated. It’s very likely that in the same way the Culling Game arc was broken down into multiple subarcs, there could be one or more subarcs to the larger 'Shinjuku Showdown arc.' These could serve as the series’ “epilogue” effectively, still leaving the 'Shinjuku Showdown arc' as the final while also offering detailed closure.

While Akutami didn’t confirm this during the exhibition, it’s something that fans are quite certain will occur. This also makes sense considering the plethora of loose ends to be tied up, such as a Heian-era flashback, the fallout of the merger, the current state of Tengen, and more. Likewise, with how many of these questions need to be answered, there will likely be multiple subarcs to break up these revelations.

Although this news regarding the manga’s future is some of the biggest to come from the exhibition, the interview with Akutami goes well beyond the manga’s future. Topics like Nobara Kugisaki and Satoru Gojo’s return, the construction of the 'Culling Game arc' and its function as a turning point, and more were also answered. Akutami also shared rough artwork of some iconic moments in the series, such as Gojo’s declaration of victory after being freed and returning.

Akutami’s original manga series began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018 and is still ongoing and regularly serialized there today. 245 of the manga’s currently published 262 chapters have been compiled into 27 compilation volumes, 22 of which are available in English.

The series was adapted into a television anime by MAPPA Studios starting in October 2020 and has since aired two full seasons. A third season adapting the aforementioned 'Culling Game arc' has been confirmed as in production by MAPPA.
