Grand Blue season 2 has been confirmed for production. This announcement was made by the anime's official staff on the website and X handle with a teaser visual on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Along with this announcement, the details regarding the cast and staff members for the show have been revealed.
Grand Blue season 2 serves as a sequel to the previous installment, which premiered in July 2018 and ran till September 2018 for 12 episodes. The anime itself is an adaptation of Kenji Inoue (author) and Kimitake Yoshioka's (illustrator) Japanese manga series of the same name. Kodansha's Good! Afternoon Magazine has been serializing the manga since April 2014.

On Sunday, September 29, 2024, the official website and X account for the series announced the production of Grand Blue season 2, six years after season 1's conclusion. The staff originally confirmed the sequel during a special radio show for the manga's 10th anniversary. However, no release information was given.
A teaser visual has been unveiled to celebrate the production of Grand Blue season 2. The illustration features all the main cast from the show, including Iori Kitahara, Kohei Imamura, Chisa Kotegawa, and Shinji Tokita, toasting under the hot summer sky.
Additionally, the staff shared congratulatory comments and illustrations from the original creators. Kimitake Yoshioka's commemorative illustration features Iori, Kohei, and other main cast members, who celebrate season 2's announcement.
On the other hand, Inoue-san shared a heartfelt message to fans. The author reveals that he was surprised and delighted to learn that fans wanted a sequel even after a long time. Kenji-san hopes to convey to even more fans the ocean's wonders, the power of friendship, the difficulties of physical experiments, and the importance of staying hydrated.
Details regarding the cast and staff members for Grand Blue season 2 have also arrived. The main cast members from the previous season are set to reprise their roles. In other words, the sequel features Yuma Uchida as Iori, Ryohei Kimura as Kohei, Chika Anzai as Chisa, Hiroki Yasumoto as Shinji, Toa Yukinari as Azusa, Katsuyuki Konishi as Ryujiro, Kana Asumi as Aina, and Maaya Uchida as Nanaka.
Likewise, the main staff from season 1 is returning to the sequel, with Shinji Takamatsu as the director, sound director, and scriptwriter. Hideoki Kusama reprises his role as the chief animation director and character designer. Zero-G Studios teams up with Liber for the sequel's production.
The comedy anime's official site and X handle have shared a comment from the director, Shinji-san, and an illustration from Hideoki-san. The visual features Iori and Kohei reading a magazine. Meanwhile, Shinji Takamatsu is elated to return to the franchise for the second time.
While the staff hasn't shared an official synopsis for Grand Blue season 2, the story will commence with Iori receiving a letter from his younger sister, Shiori, after completing his diving license course in Okinawa.
