On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the Paris Olympics 2024 gave life to a long-anticipated Haikyu match between Japan and Argentina. As fans might remember, the volleyball manga ended with Hinata Shouyo and Kageyama Tobio facing off against Toru Oikawa in a match between Japan and Argentina at the Olympics.
However, the match was never showcased in the manga, leaving fans to interpret its result to their taste. Hence, with the Japan vs. Argentina match in the Paris Olympics 2024, fans finally got to witness it in reality.
Japan vs. Argentina Volleyball match at the Paris Olympics 2024 ended with Japan's win with a score of 3-1 in the fourth round.
Surprisingly, the officials at the Paris Olympics helped set up the match perfectly by playing the anime's season 2 opening "Fly High." If fans remember, the Tokyo Olympics 2020 had played the anime's entire OST to help set up the matches. However, this was expected when the event was conducted in Tokyo. But the same was never expected from the Paris Olympics, hence it surprised fans.
The fact that was even more surprising was that Team Argentina's jersey in the match was reminiscent of that of Team A from the manga's special chapter. The chapter saw Tetsuro Kuro arrange a Special All-Star Match by inviting some of the biggest players from around the world.
Oikawa Toru played alongside Hinata Shouyo, Atsumu Miya, Suna Rintarou, Kiyoomi Sakusa, and others for Team A against Team B consisting of Kageyama Tobio, Kotaro Bokuto, Hoshiumi Korai, Wakatoshi Ushijima, Yaku Morisuke, and others.
