Sunday, July 21, 2024 saw Shueisha announce a new Hell Teacher anime project as currently in production, also confirming that the project will be released sometime in 2025. While the verbiage used for the announcement doesn’t make it clear what kind of adaptation it will be, the length of the source material suggests a television anime adaptation.

The news of the new Hell Teacher anime project was announced via the release of a roughly 60-second long teaser trailer, as well as a key visual made up of a scene from the promotional video. No other information on the anime project has been shared as of this article’s writing, but fans can expect more news to come as 2024 concludes and 2025 approaches.

Hell Teacher anime project confirmed for 2025 release window, but not much else in initial announcement

Unfortunately, there is no other confirmed information that can be shared on the Hell Teacher anime as of this article’s writing. This includes a lack of cast and staff announcements, including the animation studio who’ll produce the project. While this information was supplemented by comments from the original 31-volume manga’s author Sho Makura and illustrator Takeshi Okano, it’s nevertheless disappointing to see such information not be shared.

In addition to the anime project, it was also confirmed that the manga would be getting a new one-shot in the September issue of Shueisha’s Saikyo Jump magazine. This issue will be released in Japan on Friday, August 2, 2024. It’s unclear as of this article’s writing whether or not this manga one-shot will be canon or related to the anime project directly.

Makura and Okano’s comments saw both claim they were thrilled to be receiving a new, modern anime adaptation for the series. Makura specifically promised that fans can look forward to a “completely new look while retaining all the charm” of the original series. Okano primarily focused on how happy he was, and how excited he was that the project (which had apparently “been in the works for years”) can now be discussed openly.

This new Hell Teacher anime adaptation is far from the first, being preceded by a television anime series from 1996 to 1997, a video anime series from 1998 to 1999, and three anime films from 1996 to 1997. Makura and Okano’s original 31 volume manga, titled Jigoku Sensei Nube, ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1993 to 1999. The trailer’s description describes the story:

“The story follows Meisuke Nueno, aka "Nube," a psychic teacher with a demon hand, as he battles evil spirits and monsters to protect his students in this saga that employs elements of Japanese mythology and folklore to tell a fan-pleasing action story.
Known for its occult and horror elements on school ghost stories and urban legends, Nube captivated readers across generations with his heroic efforts to save his students from supernatural threats.”
