The Hunter x Hunter manga and its history of being on hiatus have become a part of its identity within the anime fandom. Although the fandom has experienced highs and lows due to the series having one of the longest hiatuses, Togashi's recent social media posts have generated hype for a possible return.
While the actual return of the series is still a point of debate, his most recent involvement with the Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project has made the entire fandom realize that the manga's return might be closer than expected.
Hunter x Hunter manga author returns with his Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project entry
Yoshihiro Togashi and the return of his Hunter x Hunter manga have been a topic of discussion ever since it entered an indefinite hiatus after chapter 400. The arc was shaping up to be one of the more story-focused ones in the series, with the plot inching closer to Kurapika and Melody's encounter with the fourth prince.
Although Togashi and the manga went into hiatus after chapter 400, recent Twitter posts have made it clear that the manga will soon start releasing chapters again. Togashi has shared numerous illustrations for the Hunter x Hunter manga on X (formerly Twitter), and his recent entry in the Dragon Ball Super Gallery project has managed to memorialize both his return and the legacy that Akira Toriyama left behind.
Fan reactions to the illustration
Togashi's return was already generating hype among the fans of the Hunter x Hunter manga, but his illustration for the Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project managed to get an even stronger reaction. One fan mentioned how the illustration featuring Goku and Gon on the same page is satisfying and makes even more sense since Gon is Togashi's own reinterpretation of Goku.
"Perfect! And Gon following Goku with the bike is cute," another fan said.
"YOSHIHIRO TOGOATSHI BACK A DRAGON BALL VOLUME REDESIGN 😭😭❤," one fan wrote.
Other fans also mentioned how drawing the illustration for the project must have been one of Togashi's most intense experiences, especially since both Togashi and Akira Toriyama have a lot of history between them.
"I know Togashi was HURT when Toriyama passed away There was a lot of admiration there between them," one fan said.
The exact return date for the Hunter x Hunter manga is still unknown, but given Togashi's activity on his social media account, his posting of various illustrations of the manga, and his recent involvement in the Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project, it almost guarantees that Hunter x Hunter will be back soon.
