The manga started as a one-shot. After that, it was serialized in Houbunsha's Weekly Manga Times magazine. Aside from the anime, the manga has inspired a TV drama, which aired from January to March 2022.

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, the official website and X (formerly Twitter) handle for the If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student anime unveiled the first teaser promotional video to announce that the show will premiere in October 2024 on Tokyo MX, BS11, and other channels in Japan.
Titled Wife Edition, the short video opens with the protagonist, Keisuke Nijima's supposedly dead wife, Mai Nijima returning home as an elementary school student, Marika Shiraishi.
Undoubtedly, Keisuke is confused to see an unknown girl at the entrance, with her arms crossed, saying that she's home. However, he soon realizes that it's his wife, who has been reincarnated as an elementary school girl.
Keisuke's daughter, Mai, converses with her mother and remembers the happy times she spent with her. The PV highlights the main plot of the If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student anime, showcasing the main characters.
The cast information for If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student anime has also been released. Daisuke Hirakawa stars as Keisuke Nijima, a devoted husband who lost his wife, Takae, 10 years ago. Maiko Nomura joins him as Mai Nijima, the only daughter of Keisuke and Takae.
Aoi Yuuki lends her voice to both Takaeu Nijima and Marika Shiraishi in this rom-com anime. Comments from the voice actors have also arrived on the anime's official site, where they revealed their thoughts regarding the characters they are voicing, and about the series in general.
Staff for If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student anime
Aside from the main cast, more staff members for the series has also been announced. Keiichiro Miyoshi has joined the staff as the sound director, while Hiroko Yamasaki, renowned for his contributions to Oblivion Battery, is enlisted as the music composer.
It was earlier revealed that Noriyuki Abe, known for his work in the Yu Yu Hakusho and Bleach, would direct the rom-com anime at the Studio Signpost, with Sawako Hirabayashi writing and supervising the scripts. Narihito Sekikawa is listed as the character designer.
Based on Yayu Murata's manga series, the narrative of If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student follows Keisuke Nijima, who lost his wife 10 years ago. Since then, he leads a gloomy life with his only daughter, Mai.
One day, a little school girl comes to his house and says that she's Takae, his wife, who has been reincarnated as a different girl. The anime centers around Keisuke's struggles, as he has to deal with a grade schooler with the mind of a 40-year-old woman.
