On Friday, October 13, 2023, the world premiere trailer for the Bye Bye, Earth anime was unveiled at Crunchyroll’s New York Comic Con panel, revealing key information about the production. The trailer announced the series’ main cast, staff, and a 2024 streaming and television premiere, with Crunchyroll already confirming that they will stream the anime series internationally.

The Bye Bye, Earth anime series is set to be a television anime adaptation of author Tow Ubukata and illustrator Yoshitaka Amano’s original fantasy novel series of the same name. It is presumed that the anime is intended to be a full adaptation and will likewise closely follow the source material rather than simply draw inspiration from it.

While a full staff has been announced, only the starring role for Bye Bye, Earth has been announced at the time of this article’s writing. Excitingly, the Japanese voice actress set to play lead character Belle Lablac is none other than Fairouz Ai, likely best known and praised for her role as Jolyne Cujoj in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean.

As mentioned above, the trailer premiered at Crunchyroll’s New York Comic Con panel for the Bye Bye, Earth anime is the first for the series, and made its world premiere at the panel. The roughly 90-second-long trailer gives a brief overview of the series’ story and setting while also clearly establishing protagonist Belle Lablac’s motivations and goals.

While Fairouz Ai is the only voice actor/actress announced for the series at the time of this article’s writing, it is presumed that additional castings will be revealed at a later date. In the meantime, fans do have a confirmed 2024 release window for both Japanese television and streaming, as well as a full staff list.

Yasuto Nishikata is directing the anime at LIDEN FILMS, with Sota Yokote listed as assistant director. Hiroyuki Yoshino is in charge of the series scripts, with Yuki Hino designing the characters. Kevin Penkin is composing the music. Additional staff members include the following:

  • Monster Design: Ken Tsubuki, Yoshitomo Hara
  • Art Director: Hotaka Okamoto
  • Color Key Artist: Aiko Shinohara
  • Compositing Director of Photography: Yūki Murotsuka
  • Editing: Kiyomi Yamada
  • Sound Director: Sōichirō Kubo

Crunchyroll, the WOWOW subscription television channel, and Sony Pictures are producing the Bye Bye, Earth anime in a joint effort. The anime will run on the WOWOW channel in Japan. Crunchyroll is set to stream the series internationally “in more than 200 countries and territories.” While the anime is set to premiere in 2024, no narrower release window has been given at this time. However, given the timing of the announcement, a Spring or Summer 2024 release is most likely.
