Sunday, November 17, 2024, saw the final volume covers for mangaka Gege Akutami’s original Jujutsu Kaisen series be officially revealed in the latest Weekly Shonen Jump issue. The cover reveals are for volumes 29 and 30, the final two in the series, which will feature antagonist Ryomen Sukuna in his Heian era form and protagonist Yuji Itadori, respectively.

Notably, Yuji is also in his final form for the series, wearing his Cursed Tool gauntlets and doing the hand sign that activates his unnamed Domain Expansion. Gege likely intended to use each of their pinnacles in the series as representation here for these final two volumes of the beloved new-gen shonen manga series.

Jujutsu Kaisen final volume covers embody the series’ core driving narrative

The Jujutsu Kaisen final volume covers are also extremely fitting for the fact of the series’ core narrative being focused on Yuji and Sukuna. The additional context of their relationship to each other as revealed in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc further intensifies and highlights this appropriateness in selection. Yuji being the truly final volume cover specifically also makes sense for the fact that he is now one of, if not the strongest of the next generation of sorcerers.

Sukuna’s status as the final villain of the series likewise makes his inclusion for one of the two covers of the series’ final volumes equally fitting. His status as the strongest sorcerer in history further supports this, especially when considering the fact that Yuji is now arguably the strongest sorcerer contemporarily at the series’ end. The choice of Heian-era Sukuna is equally fitting, as this form sees the legendary King of Curses at the absolute peak of his power.

Both volumes 29 and 30 are set to be officially released in Japan on Christmas Day, or Wednesday, December 25, 2024. English releases for the final volumes likely won’t be announced for sometime, as the series currently has either released or planned to release through volume 24 in English. While a translation is surely coming for the final volumes, it could be a year or even longer before those final two volumes are translated and released in English.

Jujutsu Kaisen began serialization in March 2018 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump publication magazine, running there until its end on September 30, 2024. The series ran for a total of 271 chapters, which will ultimately be collected into 30 compilation volumes. As of this article’s writing, there are no official announcements or unofficial rumors regarding a sequel or spinoff to the mainline story.

MAPPA Studios is producing a television anime adaptation of Akutami’s original series, with the first season airing in 2020 and the second in 2023. A third season has been confirmed as in production, but there is no other significant information regarding the anime’s continuation at this time.
