Friday, July 12, 2024, saw the Jujutsu Kaisen manga release schedule for August 2024 unofficially confirmed by X user and reputable series leaker @Go_Jover (Myamura). Per Myamura’s claims, the series will only release two chapters in August 2024.
While seemingly low without any context, this is realistically the maximum number of chapters Gege’s series and any other in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine can publish. The full breakdown of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga release schedule for August is given below with a full explanation as to why the series will only be releasing two chapters.
Jujutsu Kaisen manga release schedule inhibited by Obon week holiday, double-issue release traditions
Myamura’s tweet regarding the Jujutsu Kaisen manga release schedule for August starts by explaining the series’ remaining July releases. Chapter 263 will officially release this coming Sunday, July 14, 2024. It’s worth noting that while the chapter officially releases in Japan on Mondays at 12 am Japanese Standard Time, Myamura is referencing the “universal” release dates, which will apply to most regions in the world.
Likewise, this July 14 release date will be followed by a break week, meaning no chapter on Sunday, July 21. The series will return with chapter 264 on Sunday, July 28, which will then be followed by chapter 265 on Sunday, August 4. However, there will be a Weekly Shonen Jump magazine break week after this release due to the Obon holiday.
This means that no Weekly Shonen Jump series, including Jujutsu Kaisen, will publish a chapter on Sunday, August 11. The magazine and its series will instead return on Sunday, August 18 in a Weekly Shonen Jump double issue, in which chapter 266 will officially release. Unfortunately, this will be followed by a customary break week given the double issue release. This means the series will be on break for Sunday, August 25 and will not return before August ends.
Unfortunately, these dates are also fairly concrete, as the magazine break for the Obon holiday and post-double issue break will necessitate a lack of publication for the series. Thus, fans have the confirmed Jujutsu Kaisen manga release schedule for the next six weeks, confirming that four chapters will officially release in that timespan.
Author and illustrator Gege Akutami’s original Jujutsu Kaisen manga series first began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018. The series is ongoing and regularly published today, recently confirming that the ongoing Shinjuku Showdown arc is the series’ last.
The series was adapted into a television anime by MAPPA Studios, with the anime first airing in Japan in October 2020. The first season ran for 24 episodes and concluded in March 2021. A second season began airing in July 2023, running for 23 episodes and concluding in December 2023. A third season is officially in production.
