Jujutsu Kaisen surpasses One Piece to become the highest-selling manga in 2024

As mentioned earlier, Jujutsu Kaisen took the top spot in sales figures as per the numbers put up by Oricon. The title sold over 7.6 million copies during this year. In fact, it managed to sell well over 2 million copies more than its immediate competitor, One Piece. Eiichiro Oda’s manga has been progressing at a steady pace.

However, the sales figures for Gege Akutami’s series performed considerably better, which could partially be due to its conclusion this year. Other titles like the Apothecary Diaries, Frieren: Beyond the Journey’s End, and Blue Lock also put out impressive figures. Here’s a list of the top 10 best-selling manga titles along with the approximate sales figures for this year:

  • Jujutsu Kaisen - 7,610,995
  • One Piece - 5,280,000
  • Frieren: Beyond the Journey’s End - 4,955,000
  • The Apothecary Diaries - 4,695,000
  • Blue Lock - 3,881,269
  • Kaiju No.8 - 3,415,000
  • Kingdom - 3,235,000
  • Haikyu!! - 3,075,000

There is an interesting trend here because Jujutsu Kaisen isn’t the only manga that completed its run this year. My Hero Academia manga also finished its saga this year. However, we can see that this manga took the 9th spot on this list. Therefore, the conclusion of a manga isn’t the only thing driving the sales figures.

The sales numbers are a testament to the series’ popularity, especially over the past few months. Gege Akutami’s magnum opus along with the anime adaptation captured a massive audience. The anime adaptation’s successful run can also be attributed to the manga’s success. Fans have thanked the writer for letting them embark on this incredible journey which ultimately came to an end this year.

Stay tuned for more anime and manga news as 2024 progresses.
