Monday, October 28, 2024 saw the official X (formerly Twitter) account for mangaka Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen series announce two new commemorative videos to be released. More specifically, the videos will commemorate the Shibuya Incident of the eponymous Shibuya Incident Arc. The videos will be released on Halloween, or Thursday, October 31, 2024, which is also the in-series day of the year that the incident takes place.

The commemorative Jujutsu Kaisen videos will be released on Thursday, October 31 at 7PM Japanese Standard Time (JST). The announcement trailer features the phrase “Jump MV,” which is typically representative of semi-animated manga panels being used for a video’s visuals. Unfortunately, there’s no other information available on what the commemorative videos will feature yet.

Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Incident commemoration unlikely to feature any major news for the series

However, Jujutsu Kaisen fans can safely presume that the upcoming Shibuya Incident Arc commemorative videos will not feature any significant new information for the series. More likely than not, they’ll simply celebrate what’s arguably the most beloved arc and general stretch of the series. This is further supported by the fact that the manga’s final volumes have yet to be released, which would be more likely to share any meaningful news.

The fact that the videos are only being announced the week of their release further suggests this. Typically speaking, major announcements for a concluded series will be given plenty of advance time to be revealed. This serves to intrigue and excite the fanbase, whose minds will usually go to the thought of a sequel or continuation series before anything else. However, the approach here suggests that no such news or anything close to it in importance is coming.

While one can argue that it may have important anime information, this is unlikely to be the case since the Shibuya Incident Arc was already fully adapted in season 2. It’s also unlikely that any anime news is coming considering the Jump Festa 2025 event will be held just seven weeks after the upcoming announcement for the series. With this in mind, it’s almost certain that the coming videos are nothing more than celebratory commemorations.

However, fans can expect news on the third season of the television anime adaptation of the mainline manga at the aforementioned Jump Festa event. Specifically, significant news on season 3 should be shared, with a trailer likely to be revealed at a minimum. More likely than not, however, both a trailer, release window/date, and new cast will be revealed.

Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga series began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018, running for over six years until its end in September 2024. The manga ended with 271 total chapters, which will be collected into 30 compilation volumes once the final two are released in Japan on Christmas Day, 2024.
