Jujutsu Kaisen and Sanrio announced an official collaboration between the two brands and their most well-known characters, which went on sale on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Sanrio is likely better known as the brand behind characters like Hello Kitty, Gudetama, Cinnamoroll, and other so-called kawaii mascots.
Excitingly, these Sanrio characters and more will be involved in the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen collaboration, which offers many different kinds of merchandise. Just some of the products being offered include hand towels, pens with charm straps, clear files, and stickers, all of which are available both in-store and online in Japan.
Jujutsu Kaisen x Sanrio collab launches with wide array of merchandise
Each of Jujutsu Kaisen’s central-most characters is being paired up with one or more Sanrio characters in the collaboration. These pairings apply to all merchandise, meaning matching sets of merchandise can be bought, which will feature the same paired characters on each item. The artwork used for the collaboration is also exclusive and brand new for each character represented, further distinguishing this crossover from others each brand has done.
No specific special events for the collaboration have been announced as of this article’s writing, but the merchandise is now available for sale both online and in Japanese stores. Unfortunately, an international release for the collaboration seems unlikely at this time, with no news of one being planned. While a planned expansion to other stores has been confirmed, it’s suspected that this will be limited to Japan given the lack of international specification.
The collaboration features 12 total pairings including:
- Yuji Itadori with Pochacco
- Sukuna with Hello Kitty
- Satoru Gojo and Cinnamoroll
- Megumi Fushiguro with Bad Badtz-Mar
- Mahito with the Little Twin Stars, Kiki, and Lala
- Suguru Geto with Lloromannic, Berry, and Cherry
- Nobara Kugisaki with My Melody
- Aoi Todo with Bonbonribbon
- Kento Nanami with Pompompurin
- Choso with Minna no Tabo
No official explanation has been given regarding each of the pairings, but some seem to be based on common features, such as similar hair style or color. The pairing of Sukuna with Hello Kitty may be indicative of each being the most well-known character of their respective franchises. This is certainly true for Hello Kitty, and very arguably true for Sukuna. The collaboration was initially announced via the official website of the anime and manga franchise.
Author and illustrator Gege Akutami’s original manga series began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018. It ran there in its entirety until ending in September 2024 with 271 total chapters. MAPPA Studios produces a television anime adaptation of the series, which is confirmed for a third season. The first season aired in 2020, followed by a second season in 2023.
