Monday, August 5, 2024 saw Kaiju No. 8 season 2 officially announced for a release date sometime in the 2025 calendar year via the anime’s official website and official X (formerly Twitter) account. In addition, the anime series also announced a compilation film of its first season, complete with a new special original episode titled “Hoshina’s Day Off.”

Both the new original episode and the compilation film of the first season will screen together in theaters in Japan in 2025. The two projects will likely hit theaters shortly before Kaiju No. 8 season 2 premieres, and in turn will likely have their release dates announced first. These announcements were made on August 5 as the pronunciation of “No. 8” in the series title is “Hachi Gō,” with “hachi” meaning 8 and “go” without an accent meaning 5 in Japanese.

Kaiju No. 8 season 2 confirms 2025 release year, but nothing more specific in latest batch of news

While the latest announcements for the series unfortunately leave Kaiju No. 8 season 2’s exact release date or timing a mystery, there is hope for a relatively quick turnaround. For starters, both the compilation film and original new episode will likely not take much time to produce, suggesting they can be in Japanese theaters sometime in early 2025.

In turn, it’s a fair presumption that these projects will be released prior to the second season of the television anime series, serving as a preemptive refresher for fans. With this in mind, the second season is likely to come out while the two theatrical projects are still screening, in turn also teasing the second season for an early 2025 release.

The most likely answer as to when Kaiju No. 8 season 2 will release, therefore, is sometime in the mid-Winter 2025 to late Spring 2025 region. The former seems slightly more likely given the series’ popularity, and the timing of the second season and theatrical projects’ announcements. Initially announced very shortly after the first season ended, the second season is blistering through its promotional process.

Unfortunately, this is all speculative as of this article’s writing, with no rumors, leaks, or confirmed news claiming anything regarding the above release window. Instead, the mid-Winter 2025 to late Spring 2024 range seems most likely when taking the full context of the season 2’s announcements into consideration.

The second season will serve as the continuation of the television anime adaptation of author and illustrator Naoya Matsumoto’s original manga series of the same name. Matsumoto’s manga began serialization in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital catalog in July 2020, and is still ongoing there today. The manga is currently at a major junction point, with some fans believing it will soon end while others say it’s only just beginning.
