The narrative for the Kakegurui manga is set in the Hyakkaou Private Academy, a prestigious institution, that prepares students for the real world. It's an academy, where mostly the students belonging to rich heritage enroll. That's precisely the reason why the academy has its quirks, separate from others.

In the daytime, the institution functions like a normal school, offering education to pupils, according to the extensive curriculum. However, at night, it turns into a gambling den, educating students in the arts of manipulation and dealing with money.

Those who emerge on top in these games acquire the power to stand at the top of the school. In this academy, the winners lead the life of a king, while the losers face the brunt. One day, Yumeko Jabami, a naive-looking transfer student, enrolls and tries the "special curriculum" of the Hyakkou Private Academy.

Unlike the other students, she doesn't play those games to win but relishes the thrill of gambling. The narrative showcases Yumeko's unique skills, as she teaches the other students the actual art of manipulation and gambling.
