It was announced on Monday, May 22, 2023, that the release of KamiKatsu episode 8 would unfortunately be delayed by one week “due to various circumstances.” The series has simultaneously become one of the most divisive and popular anime series of the Spring 2023 season, building a dedicated base of both naysayers and supporters.

KamiKatsu is a television anime adaptation of author Aoi Akashiro and illustrator Sonsho Hangetsuban’s KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World original manga series. KamiKatsu episode 8 is a highly-anticipated episode for fans of the series, which has made this unexpected delay even more unfortunate for eager viewers.

Instead of airing a new episode during KamiKatsu episode 8’s original Japanese time slot, the seventh episode is set to be broadcast once again on Wednesday, May 24. What’s particularly notable about this situation is the lack of transparency about the reason for the delay, possibly indicating a catastrophic development, as fans fear, although this is purely speculative.

KamiKatsu episode 8 delayed under mysterious circumstances

As mentioned above, KamiKatsu episode 8 was recently announced as set for a one-week delay, which was shared via the official website for the television anime adaptation. The delay is “due to various circumstances,” per the website’s message, with staff of the series also adding that the show aims to deliver a better product in every way possible to viewers, in light of the delay.

According to fans, this could indicate that something of particularly low-quality was noticed in the final checks of the episode before its broadcast. Likewise, some fans believe it could also suggest that something catastrophic has gone on behind the scenes at Studio Palette.

In any case, the episode is officially delayed for reasons not yet shared by the adaptation team. Thankfully, the delay is only for one week, with the eighth episode set to air on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

The series is directed by Yuki Inaba at Studio Palette, with Yoshifumi Sueda as the supervisor. Akashiro is also involved in the production of the anime series and is in charge of series composition. Meanwhile, Kaori Yoshikawa is credited with designing the characters.

Rin Kurusu (who voices Cyan in her voice acting debut) performs opening theme I Wish, while the ending theme Steppin’ Up Life is performed by Akari Kito, who voices Mitama. Additional staff includes the following:

  • Art Director: Kouki Nagayoshi
  • Art Setting: Masahiro Sato
  • Color Key Artist: Kana Soma
  • Director of Photography: Ayako Otsuki
  • Sound Director: Keiichi Nozaki
  • Sound Effects: Masaru Urahata
  • Sound Production: Dax Production
  • Music: Yasunori Iwasaki
  • Music Production: Lantis

The series centers on Yukito, who is initially introduced as the heir of a questionable cult’s leader. After being unfortunately sacrificed by his father, the cult’s leader, Yuktio reincarnates in a world without any concept of God and religion. However, problems arise when the God of his former cult’s religion follows him into this new world.
