On September 15, 2024, KonoSuba season 3 announced the release of a new OVA through the official X account for the series. The announcement did not specify the number of episodes in the OVA series or the animation studio responsible for it.

KonoSuba is based on a light novel series written by Natsume Akatsuki and illustrated by Kurone Mishima. The series has also received an anime adaptation, of which the latest sequel (season 3) was released in Spring 2024 and was one of the best series in the anime season.

New OVA announced for KonoSuba season 3

The announcement tweet for the OVA series was straightforward, featuring a visual that simply confirmed the OVA's release. The official announcement was made during the Kono Subarashii Radio ni Shukufuku wo! Public Record Special live radio program.

The live event, nor the announcement tweet, specify anything regarding episode count, the animation studio, or anything else about the OVA series. However, it is expected that the OVA will be the adaptation of some chapters from the source material.

Fans can also watch the live announcement through the official clip uploaded on the YouTube channel of Kadokawa (one of the producers of Konosuba season 3). The clip features the four main voice actors of the series, and the announcement takes place between 33-34 minutes.

The main voice cast for the series includes Kazuma Satou, voiced by Jun Fukushima (Gabiru from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime), Aqua, voiced by Sora Amamiya (Nazuna from Call of the Night), Megumin, voiced by Rie Takahashi (Ai Hoshino from Oshi no Ko), and Darkness, voiced by Ai Kayano (Slyphy from Mushoku Tenseii).

The voice casting of the series remained consistent, but the animation studio kept changing through the sequels. The first two seasons were animated by Studio Deen, which was preceded by a movie that was animated by J.C. Staff, and Konosuba season 3 was animated by Studio Drive.

Takaomi Kanasaki (famous for his role as a storyboard officer in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) acted as the chief director of Konosuba season 3, even though he was the director for all the previous projects related to the series.

After beating Sylvia and saving everyone from a calamity, Kazuma's party continued their adventures, with Kazuma developing a new trauma due to his experience with Sylvia. With a few ups and downs in the third sequel, the series reached a point where Darkness had to leave the party for a political marriage due to his father's critical health.

Witnessing their teammate in trouble, Kazuma, Aqua, and Megumin buckle up and try to save their friend at the sight of the marriage. After rescuing her, they realized that Darkness' father's illness was just a curse, leaving her embarrassed over the action she took. After returning home, what adventures are waiting for the protagonist's party?
