On September 21, 2024, animation studio Kyoto Animation announced their lineup for 2025, and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid anime film (titled Samishigariya no Ryuu) was announced as one of the two series the studio will be animating. It was revealed through a trailer that the anime will be part of the upcoming year's anime lineup. More information about the release date and staff members will be released soon.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is adapted from a manga series of the same name, written and illustrated by Cool-kyou Shinja. The manga series started publication in May 2013 and has compiled 15 volumes so far (Japanese). The manga has also received two anime adaptations by the same studio.

The announcement trailer for Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid anime film consisted of one of the series' tritagonists, Kanna Kamui. The trailer showed her shadow, which was her dragon form, crying with an OST playing in the background (which is her character's soundtrack). The trailer ended with the reveal of the series' 2025 release window.
It is expected that Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid anime film would use chapters from the source material instead of going original, which is written and illustrated by Cool-kyou Shinja (Kaname Raigi).
Other than Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, the author's magnum opus, the author's other famous works include I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying, The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace, and Peach Boy Riverside. Each of these works has received an anime adaptation.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid received its first anime adaptation on January 12, 2017, and completed its airing on April 6, 2017, with 13 episodes. The sequel to the series was announced at the start of 2019; unfortunately, the animation studio suffered from an arson attack on July 18, 2019, causing a delay in most of their projects.
Fortunately, with the help and support of the fandom, the sequel became a reality and aired on July 8, 2021. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid anime film is expected to be a sequel to season 2 of the series.
What will Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid anime film be about?
As the project was just announced, the production team for the film has yet to reveal an official synopsis. However, as indicated from the announcement trailer and the title of the film (Samishigariya no Ryuu, meaning "A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved"), the premise of the film could be centered around Kanna Kamui.
Kanna Kamui is a young dragon left behind in the dragon world by Tohru, one of the protagonists when she started working as a maid for Kobayashi. The film could reveal her past or showcase any other scenario where her loneliness would be spotlighted.
