Latest My Hero Academia news dashes hope for a sequel

On August 5, 2024, as promised, My Hero Academia made a big announcement surrounding the series. The manga series has launched its Global Character Popularity Poll called WORLD BEST HERO. The results for the same will be revealed in December 2024.

Following the release of My Hero Academia Chapter 430, the manga series revealed that they would be making an announcement. While fans were expecting news about a sequel manga or the anime adaptation of a spinoff series, the manga instead announced a worldwide character popularity poll.


My Hero Academia launches its WORLD BEST HERO popularity poll

On August 5, 2024, as promised My Hero Academia manga made a special announcement through its website and official social media handles. The manga series has launched its first Global Character Popularity Poll called WORLD BEST HERO.

The popularity poll will be held in two stages. The first "Main Stage," which is currently live, will see 278 characters compete in a two-month poll. Fans can cast one vote each for their favorite character until Monday, September 30, 2024, 11:59 JST.

Fortunately for fans, they won't have to wait long to learn what characters are close to the top three positions as the midterm results will be announced on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at 7:00 PM JST.

After that, the final results for the WORLD BEST HERO Main Stage will be unveiled on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 7:00 PM JST, in a program premiering on Shonen Jump's official YouTube channel, Jump Channel.

The top-ranked character will get a special WORLD BEST HERO movie. As for all top three ranked characters from the main stage popularity poll, they will advance to the PLUS ULTRA STAGE.

The PLUS ULTRA STAGE will see the characters enter a final 24-hour limited-time voting championship. Each person will be allowed to cast 12 votes across 24 hours. The voting period for the same will be between Monday, December 2, 2024, 8:00 PM to Tuesday, December 3, 2024, 7:59 PM JST

Following that, the final result will be announced on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 9:30 PM JST. It is set to be premiered on Shonen Jump's official YouTube channel, Jump Channel.

However, that's not all as the winner of the PLUS ULTRA STAGE will see manga creator Kohei Horikoshi commemorate the the crowning of "THE MHA" with a brand new illustration. This illustration will later be used to create a special bronze statue.

This news effectively dashed away all possibilities for a sequel manga or anime adaptation of a spinoff series until later.
