On Monday, December 9, 2024, the official staff unveiled the first teaser promotional video and visual for The Dinner Table Detective anime during the Fuji TV Ani 2025 livestream event. According to the short clip, the anime is set to premiere in April 2025. Additionally, the information regarding the main cast and staff has been released.

The Dinner Table Detective anime is based on the Japanese mystery novel series by author Tokuya Higashigawa and illustrator Yusuke Nakamura. The series was launched in Shogakukan, where it was serialized for three volumes.

A manga adaptation with Aya Kawase was serialized in Shogakukan's Petit Comic magazine from April 2011 to November 2011 for 2 tankobon volumes. The series also inspired a TV drama adaptation that aired on Fuji TV from October 2011 to December 2011.


The Dinner Table Detective anime's first PV confirms the April 2025 release window

During the Fuji TV Ani 2025 livestream on Monday, December 9, 2024, the official staff shared a teaser promotional video confirming that The Dinner Table Detective anime will be released in April 2025 on Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block. This block will broadcast at 11 pm JST, replacing its previous 12:55 am timeslot. The official staff is yet to disclose a narrower release date for the series.

The teaser promotional video for The Dinner Table Detective anime features the main characters, Reiko Hosho, Kyoichiro Kazamatsuri, and Kageyama. The short clip highlights a comical exchange between Reiko, a detective from a wealthy family, and Kageyama, who is known for his sharp tongue.

According to the official staff, Kana Hanazawa stars as Reiko Hosho, while Yuki Kaji voices Kageyama, Reiko's butler & chauffeur. Mamoru Miyano joins the cast as Kyoichiro Kazamatsuri, Reiko's boss at the National Police Agency. More cast will be announced in the future.

Aside from the PV, the official staff unveiled a key visual for The Dinner Table Detective anime. The illustration features Reiko, Kazamatsuri, and Kageyama, with a tagline in Japanese, which reads "Are you blind, my lady?" in English.

Mitsuki Masuhara directs the comedy anime at Madhouse, with Mariko Kunisawa supervising the scripts. Izumi Kawada has joined the main staff as the animation character designer, while Takeshi Hama composes the show's music. Oreko Tachibana, known for contributions to Firefly Wedding and Promise Cinderella manga, designs the original characters for the series.

Based on Tokuya Higashigawa's novels, the narrative for The Dinner Table Detective anime follows Reiko Hosho, the daughter of Hosho Group's owner, who becomes a rookie detective at the National Police Agency. Her boss happens to be Kazamatsuri, the son of the Kazamatsuri Motor's owner.

Together, Reiko and Kazamatsuri solve tricky cases. While tackling the cases, Reiko consults her butler, Kageyama, who often spits venomous language to insult his master. However, he always solves the cases for her.
