Mashin Sozoden Wataru anime is set to premiere on January 12, 2025. The anime's official staff confirmed the release date with a new promotional video on Friday, November 15, 2024. At the same time, the staff revealed the anime's opening theme song and unveiled a new visual.
Mashin Sozoden Wataru serves as a spin-off to the original Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru franchise. Produced by Studio Sunrise, the original anime premiered in 1988 and aired 45 episodes. A sequel was followed, releasing 46 episodes from 1990 to 1991. The upcoming spin-off anime was announced during the franchise's 35th Thanksgiving event in January 2024.

On Friday, November 15, 2024, the official website and X (formerly Twitter) account for Mashin Sozoden Wataru anime shared a new promotional video to confirm the show's January 12, 2025, premiere date.
According to the short clip, Mashin Sozoden Wataru anime will air its episodes every Sunday, at 5:30 pm JST, starting January 12, 2025, on six TV Tokyo-affiliated channels in Japan.
The latest promotional video features Wataru Hoshibe, who ventures into the world of Sokaizan, with his friends, Shibaraki, Toraro, and others. The video shows Wataru facing evil forces that preside over Sokaizan. Aside from highlighting the show's narrative, the short clip reveals and previews the anime's opening theme song, POP UP! by lol.
The official staff for the Mashin Sozoden Wataru anime has shared a comment from Asada Moca, one of the members of the J-pop band, lol. Moca says she's happy to be involved in the franchise.
Talking about the opening theme, she mentions it's a refreshing song that's fitting for an opening. She hopes the audience will love lol's song, along with the anime. At the same time, the staff has unveiled a new visual featuring Wataru and his friends. The illustration confirms the anime's release date and broadcast information.
Cast and staff for Mashin Sozoden Wataru anime
Mutsumi Tamura stars as Wataru Hoshibe, while Katsuyuki Konishi voices Ofurain. Atsumi Tanezaki has joined the voice cast as Kakeuri Amabe. Megu Umezawa voices Maro, while Rie Kugimiya plays Ryunryun's role. Tomokazu Sugita lends his voice to Ryunjinmaru.
Yumi Kamakura directs the mecha anime at Bandai Namco Pictures, with Yoicihi Kato supervising the series scripts. Yoshinori Yumoto and Mayuko Nakano are enlisted as character designers. Ryuichi Takada, Keita Inoue, Oliver Good, and Keiichi Hirokawa are in charge of the show's music.
Mashin Sozoden Wataru anime's narrative centers on Wataru Hoshibe, who enters the world of Sokaizan to vanquish evil pervading there. He observes the evil presence throughout the area, where the Mashin Ryujinmaru's powers are sealed. Together with his friends, Wataru Hoshibe embarks on a new journey.
