MF Ghost Season 2 is set to premiere on October 6, 2024. This news was confirmed by the anime's official staff on Friday, August 9, 2024, via a promotional video. Along with this announcement, the staff revealed details regarding the sequel's opening theme song.
Produced by Felix Film, MF Ghost Season 2 serves as a sequel to the previous installment, which aired 12 episodes from October to December 2023. The series itself is an adaptation of the eponymous manga series, written and illustrated by Shuichi Shigeno. The manga is a sequel to Initial D, focusing on the street racing theme.
MF Ghost Season 2 new trailer confirms the October 6, 2024 release date
On Friday, August 9, 2024, the official website and X (formerly Twitter) account of the series shared the second promotional video and announced that MF Ghost Season 2 will be released on October 6, 2024. The sequel will be broadcast on Tokyo MX, Animax, and other networks in Japan.
The short video features the protagonist, Kanata Katagiri, and other Godly 15 Drivers, like Koki Sawatari, Michael Beckenbauer, and others. The PV includes intense racing scenes and close-up shots of the important characters. Additionally, the video teases the narrative for Season 2.
Besides that, the latest trailer previews the new opening theme song for MF Ghost Season 2. The theme song, ROCK ME KISS ME, has been performed by MOTSU in collaboration with Yuu Serizawa. Notably, the duo also performed the first season's opening song, JUNGLE FIRE.
Comments from the theme song artists have arrived on the anime's official website. Yu Serizawa mentions that the new song feels nostalgic like the previous one, but it's more on the "intense" side.
MOTSU adds that the opening song is like "full-throttle Eurobeat." He further mentions that the whole team has poured their heart and soul into producing the music that fits perfectly with the scene.
Cast and staff for MF Ghost Season 2
The sequel sees returning cast and staff, with Yuma Uchida reprising his role as Kanata Katagiri, and Ayane Sakura voicing Ren Saionji. Hiroshi Kamiya returns to play the role of Michael Beckenbauer, with Ryota Osaka as Koki Sawatari. Daisuke Ono again voices Shun Aiba, while Junichi Suwabe returns as Kaito Akaba.
Naka Tomohito reprises his directorial duties for the sequel at Felix Film, with Kenichi Yamashita in charge of the series composition. Naoyuki Onda returns as the chief animation director and character designer, while Akio Dobashi rejoins the staff as the music composer.
Considering the previous installment covered 56 chapters from the manga, MF Ghost Season 2 will pick up the events from Chapter 57, and show the next racing journey of Katagiri and his friends.
