Mission: Yozakura Family season 2 has been officially confirmed for production. This was announced by the anime's staff with a promotional video after season 1's finale, on Sunday, October 6, 2024. The short clip featured the manga panels from the original manga series and teased the next season's narrative. No information about the sequel's release date was announced.
The Mission: Yozakura Family anime is based on Hitsuji Gondaira's eponymous Japanese manga series. Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump has been serializing the spy-themed manga since August 2019, collecting its chapters into 26 tankobon volumes. Under the production of Silver Link, the anime adaptation premiered on April 7, 2024.
Mission: Yozakura Family season 2 gets green-lit for production
On Sunday, October 6, 2024, the official website and X account shared an announcement video to confirm the production of Mission: Yozakura Family season 2. The announcement came right after the anime's 27th and final episode's conclusion.
The announcement PV begins with Mutsumi Yozakura prepared to settle things with her father, Momo Yozakura, who looks forward to the family get-togethers. The short video features the iconic panels from Hitsuji Gondaira's manga series and highlights the narrative for Mission: Yozakura Family season 2.
Undoubtedly, season 2 will center around the familial conflict, where the familial bonds will be put to the test. The PV ends with Momo Yozakura welcoming Taiyo Asano to the family. Yet, while the PV announces the show's renewal, it doesn't provide any information on the sequel's release date.
Besides the PV, the anime's official staff has shared comments from Reiji Kawashima (Taiyo Asano's voice actor), Kaede Hondo (Mutsumi Yozakura's voice actor) and Hitsuji Gondaira, the original mangaka. Kaede-san is ecstatic that there will be a sequel. She looks forward to the many things that the Yozakura family has to resolve.
Likewise, Reiji Kawashima reveals that he found out about Mission: Yozakura Family season 2's production while recording the final episode. The voice actor is enthralled, as he can bring fans all the wonderful scenes again.
Hitsuji Gondaira has also penned a beautiful comment, along with an illustration, to celebrate the sequel's production. The mangaka has thanked everyone involved with the series and expressed his gratitude to all viewers and readers who watched the show and supported the manga. Gondaira-san has also revealed that they are shaking with gratitude and surprise over the sequel's announcement.
The first season premiered on April 27, 2024, on MBS, TBS, and other networks, and ran four two consecutive cours til October 6, 2024, airing 27 episodes in total. Disney+ and Hulu stream the series in English subs for international audiences.
Based on Hitsuji Gondaira's manga, the comedy action anime follows Taiyo Asano and his turbulent daily life in the Yozakura Family, as he gets engaged to his childhood friend, Mutsumi Yozakura, with the sole purpose of protecting her from harm.
