Late 2024 marks the return of the Moriarty the Patriot manga, a creation of Ryōsuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi. The latest news from Shueisha's Jump SQ magazine points to this much-anticipated comeback. The initial run of this manga saw light from August 2016 till December 2022 on Jump Square across 19 volumes, ending its first part era; however, it is now preparing for a resurgence with a second part slated for December 2024— exactly two years post closure.
The Moriarty the Patriot manga was also based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's final Sherlock Homes novel, Valley of Fear. Fans are interested to see what path Ryōsuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi choose for this sequel. Moreover, some fans might wish that this return to serialization could also spell a revival for the anime adaptation produced by Production I.G between 2020 and 2021.

As mentioned, the Moriarty the Patriot manga is poised to come back to serialization with Jump Square magazine after the first part ended in December 2022. The manga is returning in December 2024 and is coming back after the spinoff series, also titled The Remains, ended this month. The Remains was written by Yosuke Saita and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi.
As of this writing, there is no information regarding what the second part's storyline is going to be about, especially considering that the manga is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels. And when taking into account that the first part ended up covering the final Holmes novel, Valley of Fear, it will be interesting to see which direction Ryōsuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi will take.
The premise of the series
The Moriarty the Patriot manga tells the story of Sherlock Holmes' biggest adversary, William James Moriarty, a crime consultant, who has a notorious social resentment toward the British Empire. The manga takes place in the 19th century and William is committing multiple crimes to destroy what he considers unfair social classes and remake them to what he views as right.
Along the way, he meets Sherlock Holmes and forms a rivalry of sorts with the notorious detective. This kickstarts a battle of wits between the two men, thus testing their abilities and intellect in a fun and creative way.
