Thursday, August 8, 2024, the television Murai in Love anime series revealed significant information, including its September 2024 release date and streaming on Disney+ in Japan. This information was revealed via the series’ second main promotional video, which also revealed additional cast members and previewed the anime’s opening theme song.
Regarding the series’ release date, the Murai in Love anime will premiere on Japanese television in October 2024 but premiere early on Disney+ in Japan starting September 4. As mentioned above, the Murai in Love anime is officially set to begin streaming on Disney+ in Japan starting on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. This will be followed by a Japanese television premiere on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 11:30 pm Japanese Standard Time. The series will premiere on the Tokyo MX, BS NTV, and Biwako channels.
Newly announced cast members include Saori Goto, Mikoi Sasaki, and Yuki Hirose. Goto plays Yuka Nishifuji, a god-tier artist whom Tanaka looks up to. Sasaki plays Hitomi Nishifuji, Yuka’s cosplaying little sister. Finally, Hirose plays Yayoi Fukunaga, who is completely in love with the series protagonist Murai.
The trio will be joining previously announced starring cast members Kengo Takanashi as Murai, Yoko Hikasa as Ayano Tanaka, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hitotose, Kohei Amaski as Kiriyama, Haruki Ishiya as Hirai, Masaya Matsukaze as Yamakado, and Hochu Ohtsuka as the series’ narrator. As of this article’s writing, it’s unclear whether these latest casting announcements combined with previous announcements will comprise the series’ full cast.
Yoshiki Yamakawa is directing the anime at J.C. Staff Studios, with Susumu Yamakawa supervising and writing the series scripts. Ruka Kawada is composing the music for the series, with Jin Aketagawa as the sound director. Additional staff will likely be announced in the coming weeks as the anime’s streaming premiere draws nearer.
The series serves as an adaptation of author and illustrator Junta Shima’s original manga series of the same name. The manga was serialized in Line Corporation’s Line Manga website from June 2018 to June 2022, ending five days short of a full four-year run. The series was also previously adapted into a live-action series, which ran for eight episodes on TBS from April to May 2022.
The Murai in Love anime will center on the titular character, an unassuming high school boy who confesses his love for his teacher, Tanaka. She is a woman who is a fan of otome games for girls but quickly and definitively rejects him. Undeterred, Murai returns to school the next day a completely different person, emulating Tanaka’s favorite otome game character and attempting to become her dream man.
