Beloved singer, Sayuri has passed away on September 20, 2024, at the age of 28 after battling a chronic illness. The official announcement was made on her X (formerly known as Twitter) page. Following this, a follow-up announcement was made by her husband and musician, Amaarashi.

The chronic illness in question was not specified in the official announcement. The issued statements requested the public to respect the family’s wishes of requiring privacy. The statements also thanked the public for supporting the singer, who worked on a plethora of anime titles such as My Hero Academia, Erased, and Scum’s Wish, among others.

A rough translation of a portion of the aforementioned statement is as follows:

"Sayuri passed away on September 20th. She passed away at the age of 28. As per the family's wishes, a funeral was held only for the relatives and close friends. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for Sayuri. May she rest in peace. The family has requested privacy as they are mourning the loss of their loved one."

My Hero Academia and Erased singer Sayuri passes away after battling a chronic illness

As mentioned earlier, the exact chronic illness was not mentioned in the post that was shared by Amaarashi. However, it was revealed that Sayuri was suffering from a condition that affected her voice. The condition in question is called Dysphonia which is a broad medical term that refers to voice-related disorders. Patients suffering from this tend to sound raspy and have a coarse voice in comparison to others.

One would also have to speak rather softly, since raising volumes can cause pain in certain cases. Sayuri suffered from Functional Dysphonia and this is often caused without any anatomical or neurological irregularities. The beloved singer went public about this issue on July 25, 2024 through a post on X.

She was hesitant to go public with her statement since she did not want to worry her fans. Her reason for issuing that statement was because of her need to be transparent, as she preferred to operate that way.

Sayuri was passionate about singing and lent her voice to massive projects. In fact, the ending for My Hero Academia season 4, is considered to be one of the best ending soundtracks in the series.

She also went on a tour in China which took place in May, earlier this year. She took to X to inform about a tour vlog being in the works, a few weeks prior to being diagnosed with Functional Dysphonia. As stated by her husband in the post, she was passionate about singing until the very end. Fans hope that Sayuri’s family finds strength in such trying times.
