On September 8, 2024, it was reported that Naruto voice actor Emi Shinohara passed at the age of 61. The announcement was made through the official website of the voice actor's talent management agency, 81 Produce. It was reported that she was undergoing medical treatment but nothing specific was revealed by the talent agency. The agency shared:

"Shinohara Emi (real name Watanabe Emiko), an actor affiliated with our company, passed away on September 8, 2024, at the age of 61, while undergoing medical treatment. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the kindness shown to us during her lifetime."

The voice actor enjoyed a fantastic career as a seiyuu, most well-known for her roles as Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon and Kushina Uzumaki from Naruto. She was also a singer and started her career in the late 1980s.

The husband of the late Emi Shinohara (real name: Emiko Watanabe), Hiroshi Watari, shared his thoughts on the departure of his wife through his official X. According to the live-action actor, he felt that many swallowtail butterflies were flying around him, a picture of which was also attached to his tweet, and acting as messengers for the future.

In Japanese culture, swallowtail butterflies are said to act as messengers for big changes in the future, which could be what the live-action actor wanted to say through his tweet for his wife. He also stated that their marriage, which lasted for 26 years, was fun and thanked her for everything.

The late voice actor was born on August 8, 1963, and started her career as a voice actress in 1986 with the talent agency 81 Produce. Her debut role was as Elizabeth from the famous 1980s OVS series Dream Hunter Rem. Starting her career before the 2000s, she was a part of the classic anime series.

With getting the roles of main characters like B-Ko Daitokuji from the A-Ko franchise, the start of her voice actor career was very bright. However, she reached new heights when selected as the voice cast for Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon.

She was also behind various video game characters like Sayori Yukizuki in Snow Portable.
