Friday, September 6, 2024 saw the first promotional video for the upcoming Negative Positive Angler anime series be revealed, also confirming its Thursday, October 3, 2024 release date. The series also revealed a new key visual, as well as the anime’s opening and closing theme songs and artists, and additional cast for the series.

Considering the anime’s imminent release date and how much information was revealed, it’s likely that this will be the last major news announcement for the Negative Positive Angler anime.

It’s possible that another promotional video will be revealed before the series’ premiere, but it’s unlikely to contain any revelatory or groundbreaking info on the production.

Original Negative Positive Angler anime series premieres at 10 p.m. JST on Thursday, October 3, in Japan

The Negative Positive Angler anime will premiere on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 10 p.m. Japanese Standard Time (JST) on ATX. The anime will then air on Tokyo MX and KBS Kyoto at 10:30 p.m. JST, followed by a premiere on Sun TV at 12:30 a.m. on Friday, October 4, and on BS Nippon TV at 1 a.m. on October 4.

The anime will be available to stream on Abema every Thursday at 10:30 p.m.JST after the anime’s initial episode premiere on ATX has concluded.

The series also announced two new cast members, whose character name romanizations have yet to be officially confirmed as of this article’s writing. Haruka Tomatsu plays Ice, a Thai model, cosplayer and part-time worker who loves anime and manga. Yuya Hirose plays Alua, Ice’s younger brother who works part-time at the Every Mart while studying to be a chef.

The pair join previously announced starring cast members Mitsuki Iwanaka as Tsunehiro Sasaki, Fairouz Ai as Hana Ayukawa, Kaito Ishikawa as Takaaki Tsutsujimori, Rio Tsuchiya as Kozue Nishimori, Hiroshi Tsuchida as Machida, and Masashi Sugawara as Fujishiro. It's presumed that this is the anime’s full cast list for its first season.

Yutaka Uemura is directing the anime at NUT studios, with Tomohiro Suzuki supervising and writing the series scripts. Hiromi Taniguchi is designing the characters and is also the chief animation director.

The Negative Positive Angler anime's story centers on Tsunehiro Sasaki, a university student with a large amount of debt who recently discovered he only has two years left to live. Living out his life in depression, he’s eventually chased by a debt collector and falls into the sea.

He’s then rescued by Hana Ayukawa, a girl who loves fishing and has a group of fishing friends which includes Takaaki Tsutsujimori. Hana implores Tsunehiro to try fishing, prompting him to start developing friendships with the other fishing enthusiasts.

Tsunehiro’s life begins to turn around here, which is only exacerbated by his starting to work at the same convenience store as Hana and Takaaki and slowly getting hooked on fishing.
