Sunday, November 24, 2024, saw mangaka Takuya Fujima announce via their X (formerly Twitter) account that the original television Highspeed Étoile anime has a new project currently being produced. While the format or other details of the anime project weren’t revealed, Fujima’s post was reposted by the franchise’s official X account, officially confirming the news.

However, it can be expected that Fujima is involved yet again considering they're the ones who broke this officially confirmed news. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to predict what format the next project will take, especially given that the Highspeed Étoile anime has no source material as an original anime series. The news comes after the anime’s special “Aim for 'Étoile” event earlier in the day, which Fujima took part in.

As mentioned above, there is no confirmed information regarding the format the upcoming project in the Highspeed Étoile anime franchise will take. However, a film or second television anime season seems most likely considering the typical progression of such projects. It’s also possible that the project will be a game or some sort of other endeavor outside the general narrative media constraints of the industry.

One reason why a game may be likely is how naturally the anime’s plot would lend itself to a racing game. While the franchise had already launched a puzzle game in Summer 2024 and a visual novel on November 21, 2024, neither of these are true racing games. In the same breath, this is also why a movie seems as likely as a second television anime season since the story of a single race can easily be told in a theatrical format.

However, as mentioned above, these are all speculative guesses, with no additional information on the upcoming project having been revealed as of this article’s writing. The only confirmed information is that a new project is indeed coming following the first original television anime season. The original series ran from April 5 to June 21, 2024, in Japan, with Crunchyroll streaming the series weekly overseas as it aired in Japan.

The Highspeed Étoile anime is set in the near future, where automotive technology has developed to the point of allowing safe and secure travel at 500km/h (or 310 mph). This leads to the birth of the NEX Race, a next-generation race event that changes the world of racing. The races notably incorporate the use of AI control support, as well as the use of a “Revolburst” mechanism by drivers.

Newcomer Rin Rindo is debuting in a NEX Race, and her destiny is to further revolutionize the sport. However, racing wasn’t always her dream, originally wanted to become a ballet dancer but gave it up due to injury. Rindo understandably fell into depression after this, but suddenly found herself thrown into this new world of racing as the series started.
