Friday, June 28, 2024, saw a new The Irregular at Magic High School anime film officially announced via the official X account for the television anime series. Per the post, the new film will adapt the Yotsuba Succession arc and will be officially titled The Irregular at Magic High School: Yotsuba Succession Arc.

Alongside the confirmation of the new The Irregular at Magic High School anime film, the official X account posted a short roughly 15-second promotional video, as well as a key visual. This news came after the airing of the 13th and final episode of the third season of the television anime adaptation, which aired on Friday, June 28, 2024.

New The Irregular at Magic High School anime film confirmed for next arc in the series

As mentioned above, the news of the new The Irregular at Magic High School anime film came alongside a short teaser trailer and key visual. Unfortunately, there’s not much to be pulled from the roughly 15-second-long trailer, which primarily focuses on the two main characters while a disembodied voice is heard narrating the trailer.

Likewise, the trailer revealed no additional release information for the film such as a general window, cast announcements, and so on. The same can be said for the key visual, which primarily recycles artwork from the promotional video and seemingly offers no additional information on the film beyond what’s been said above.

However, it is suspected as of this article’s writing (but not confirmed) that there will be no major staff changes considering how well-received the anime’s third season was overall. Likewise, it’s expected that the film will primarily feature a returning cast from the anime series, especially with respect to central characters.

The third season began airing on April 5, 2024 and concluded on Friday with its 13th episode. The series premiered on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11 in Japan, with Crunchyroll streaming the series weekly with English subtitles as it aired in Japan. Crunchyroll also produced and streamed an English dub for the third season of the series.

The anime first premiered in April 2014 with its first season, running for 26 episodes. This was followed by a long six-year wait for the second season’s premiere, with it finally arriving in October 2020 and running for 13 episodes. In between, the anime franchise also released a movie titled The Girl Who Summons the Stars, opening in Japan in June 2017.

The new The Irregular at Magic High School anime film will continue the television anime adaptation of author Tsutomu Sato and illustrator Kana Ishida’s original light novel series of the same name. The story began as a web novel by Sato on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website, which ran from October 2008 to March 2011. The light novel ran from July 2011 to September 2020 and has been followed by a currently releasing sequel.
