On Sunday, November 10, 2024, Kadokawa streamed an announcement video to confirm the production of Oblivion Battery Season 2. Simultaneously, the anime's official website and X (formerly Twitter) account shared the information with fans. However, the short clip didn't reveal any details concerning the anime's release date, cast, or staff.
Oblivion Battery Season 2 is a sequel to the previous installment, which aired 12 episodes from April 2024 to June 2024. The series is based on Eko Mikawa's baseball manga series, Bokyaku Battery. Mikawa-san's manga has been serialized in Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ app, with 19 volumes published thus far. The 20th volume is slated to be released on December 4, 2024.
Oblivion Battery Season 2 gets officially confirmed with an announcement PV
The official YouTube channel for Kadokawa streamed an announcement promotional video on Sunday, November 10, 2024, to reveal that Oblivion Battery Season 2 is in production. The short video featured illustrations from Eko Mikawa's original baseball manga and newly recorded voices of Haruka Kiyomine (voiced by Toshiki Masuda), and Kei Kaname (voiced by Mamoru Miyano).
Besides Kei and Haruka, the announcement video features their friends, playing baseball. The short clip also has melodious music, which goes well with the characters' uplifted spirits. Yet, although the announcement PV confirms the production, it doesn't reveal any release date or new cast for Oblivion Battery Season 2.
That said, considering the video featured the newly recorded voices of Mamoru Miyano and Toshiki Masuda, it's speculated, not confirmed that other cast members will feature. Moreover, it's also speculated that MAPPA will be in charge of the anime adaptation again like it produced the first season this year.
The anime's first season premiered on April 9, 2024, on TV Tokyo and its affiliated channels in Japan. Crunchyroll streamed the series in the USA, Europe, Africa, Oceania, CIS, and other regions, as it aired in the nation.
The previous installment starred Toshiki Masuda as Haruka, Mamoru Miyano as Kei, Yohei Azakami as Aoi, Yoshitaka Yamaya as Kazuki, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shunpei, Yuki Kaji as Taro, Takeo Otsuka as Eiichiro Kokuto, Kengo Kawanishi as Shuto, and Mark Ishii as Hironobu Makita.
Makoto Nakazono, renowned for his contribution to Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen, directed the series at MAPPA, with Eijuu Takashima in charge of the match production. Takeshi Iida aided Makoto-san as the assistant director. Michiko Yokote handled the series scripts, with Hitomi Hasegawa as the character designer. It remains to be seen whether the same staff and cast return in Oblivion Battery Season 2.
About the anime
Based on Eko Mikawa's manga, the baseball anime centers around Haruka, a perfect pitcher, and Kei, an amazing catcher who has lost his memory because of amnesia. The talented duo were almost unbeatable in their junior days.
Fast forward to the future, they enroll in the Kotesashi High School in Tokyo, where they meet the other baseball players whose dreams they had crushed in the junior school. Together, they decide to form a team and play the sport they once loved.
