Once Upon a Witch's Death anime has been green-lit for production, as announced by the official staff on Friday, June 28, 2024. According to the announcement, the anime is set to release in 2025. Along with this announcement, the staff has shared a teaser promotional video and visual.

Produced by EMT Squared, the Once Upon a Witch's Death anime serves as an adaptation of the eponymous witch-fantasy light novel series, written by Saka and illustrated by Chorefuji. ASCII Media Works has been publishing the novels since September 2021.

Besides the anime, the light novels have inspired a manga, with Kenu Amearare's illustrations.

On Friday, June 28, 2024, Kadokawa streamed a promotional video to announce the adaptation of Once Upon a Witch's Death anime, based on Saka's witch fantasy light novel series. According to the short video, the series will be released in 2025. A narrower release date is yet to be revealed.

The promotional video features Meg and Faust, the main characters of the Once Upon a Witch's Death anime. The short clip delves into the anime's plot, revealing Meg's circumstances, where she has to collect the tears of joy and grow the tree of life to undo a curse and prevent her death.

Interestingly, a new website and X (formerly Twitter) handle for the anime have been opened to share the PV with fans. Besides the teaser trailer, the official staff has also unveiled a key visual.

The vibrant illustration depicts the witch apprentice, Meg, and her mentor, Faust, known as the Eternal Witch. Moreover, a comment from Saka, the original author of the light novels has arrived, where they expressed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported them.

Additionally, the author has asked fans to look forward to the series. Besides Saka, the manga adaptation artist, Kenu Amearare, has drawn an illustration of Meg Raspberry to celebrate the anime adaptation's news.


Cast and staff for the Once Upon a Witch's Death anime

The main cast and staff for the Once Upon a Witch's Death anime have also been revealed. Yoshino Ayoama stars as Meg Raspberry, the witch apprentice, while Yoshiko Sakakibara voices Faust, the Eternal Witch.

The promotional video previews their character voices. Notably, the anime's site and X handle have shared the comments from the voice actors, who revealed their excitement to be part of the series.

Coming to the staff, Atsushi Nigorikawa directs the series at EMT Squared, with Keiichiro Ochi supervising the scripts. Yuki Shizuku has joined the staff as the character designer and is adapting Chorefuji's original character designs for animation.


About the anime

Based on Saka's light novels, the fantasy anime centers around Meg Raspberry, an apprentice witch, who learns that she has only one year left to live. Her master, Faust, the Eternal Witch, tells her that the only way to undo her curse is to collect the tears of joy and grow the seed of life.

However, to do that, Meg has to leave her sheltered life and embark on an adventure, something she has never done before. The anime follows Meg's journey, where she will learn many important lessons about life.
