One Piece chapter 1116's first spoiler confirms upcoming release schedule and break

Monday, May 27, 2024 saw the first spoiler for One Piece chapter 1116 made available, bringing with it the unfortunate confirmation that the series will be taking a break after this release. Thankfully, currently available information suggests that this will only be a one-week break, with X/Twitter user and reputable series leaker @pewpiece (Pew) not specifying the break length. Historically, such specification is made for breaks longer than one week.

Likewise, it also suggests that the break week following One Piece chapter 1116’s is a planned one, and is not indicative of a sudden emergency with mangaka Eiichiro Oda’s health.

Those breaks which are a result of health emergencies typically see leakers, both for Oda’s series and others, specify that the break is sudden and due to health issues.

Further supporting this claim is the currently known release schedules of fellow Weekly Shonen Jump flagship manga series My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen.

My Hero Academia returns from a break this week, while Jujutsu Kaisen is set to be on break this week and return next week. In other words, Oda and Shueisha appear to be deliberately timing the former’s planned post-One Piece chapter 1116 break week with the other two series’ returns to serialization.

In turn, it could also suggest that Shueisha will lock in this release approach for the three series following One Piece chapter 1116’s release.

That would ensure that two of the publisher’s three biggest series would be serialized at any given point, with at least one week a month likely to see all three releasing a new issue in the same week.

Unfortunately, this discussion of a potential planned release timings for all three series is purely and fully speculative as of this article’s writing. However, the break following chapter 1116 has been all but officially confirmed, with Pew’s word typically being as good as Shueisha’s on any and all things related to Oda’s franchise.

Further speculation, albeit with some relatively solid evidence to back it up, is that the upcoming issue will be an incredibly exciting and revelatory one given the following break week. This is typical of Oda’s modus operandi, typically taking break weeks either to let major revelations sit with fans or prepare for an action-packed issue.

While it’s possible that the latter could be why a break week is being taken, the former seems much more likely considering the full context of current events heading into chapter 1116.

Dr. Vegapunk continues to reveal significant lore regarding both the Void Century specifically and the history of the series’ world itself. Given that, it seems more likely that another major reveal is coming in the final pages of the upcoming release.
