Monday, June 24, 2024, saw reputable series leaker and X user @pewpiece (Pew) post the first set of leaked information on One Piece chapter 1119 to their profile. Per these initial leaks, there will indeed be a break week for the series following chapter 1119’s official release, marking the first for the series since early June 2024.

Thankfully, Pew’s claim suggests that the post-1119 break week won’t be longer than a single week, with extended hiatuses for the series typically being specified in similar posts from Pew. However, an extended break is likely coming sometime after One Piece chapter 1119’s publication due to the upcoming Obon holiday in Japan.

Note: One Piece 1119 Spoilers are now out

One Piece chapter 1119’s break should only be one week, but a hiatus may soon be near for the series

As mentioned above, the Obon holiday will be on the horizon in the weeks following One Piece chapter 1119’s release and the subsequent break period. While not officially confirmed yet, it’s more likely than not that the series does take a somewhat long break for the holiday. This is further confirmed by the series’ recent release schedule and the confirmation of a post-chapter 1119 break week.

This break would see the series officially return on July 15, at which point a maintenance of its recent 3-on-1-off schedule would see issues released on the 22 and 29 of July as well. This would then prompt a break week for the Weekly Shonen Jump issue releasing on August 5. However, with the next issue releasing on August 12 and Obon beginning on August 13, it’s likely that Oda will not publish a chapter on August 12, and possibly even August 19 as well.

This would also line up with where the series is in the Egghead arc, with the period surrounding Obon likely being just after or just before the Egghead arc’s conclusion. In other words, Oda would likely take advantage of this serendipitous timing by using an extended break to prepare either the Egghead arc’s conclusion or the opening stages of the Elbaf arc.

However, this is all speculative as of this writing, with no break information for the series confirmed beyond a break week after One Piece chapter 1119. Fans will likely have more information regarding Oda’s schedule in the vicinity of the Obon holiday in late July as the holiday draws nearer.

Author and illustrator Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga first began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in July 1997. The series is still ongoing and regularly published there today and is progressing through its Final Saga. It is the best-selling manga in the world, with over 516 million copies in circulation as of August 2022.
