Monday, July 29, 2024, saw the release week for One Piece chapter 1122 begin and bring with it the initial spoilers for the issue, which largely focused on the manga’s future release schedule. Likewise, per X (formerly Twitter) user and reputable series leaker @pewpiece (Pew), author and illustrator Eiichiro Oda’s manga is not set to take a break the week following chapter 1122’s release.
However, while Oda will not take a voluntary break week after One Piece chapter 1122’s official release, the series will nevertheless take a break from publication due to the Obon holiday. This stems from Shueisha and Weekly Shonen Jump taking a publication break, meaning that Oda’s series and all others will be on a forced break for the Obon week holiday.
Thankfully, the confirmation of no break week after One Piece chapter 1122’s official release means the manga will have two official releases in August. The first will be chapter 1122 on Monday, August 5, and the second will be chapter 1123 on Monday, August 19. However, this also means that these will be the only two release weeks for August, assuming no last-minute breaks or delays for chapter 1123 are announced.
One Piece chapter 1122 will be one of just two official releases for the month of August
The reason why the news of no break week following One Piece chapter 1122’s release stems from how Shueisha handles the release of their double issues and return from the Obon week holiday. Upon returning from Obon week, Shueisha will publish a double issue of Weekly Shonen Jump to compensate for the forced break week. However, Shueisha also customarily takes a publication break after releasing a double issue, which they expect to do in August.
In turn, this puts the only potential release date for chapter 1123, confirmed to be coming immediately after chapter 1122’s release, as August 26. Likewise, with this being the last Monday of the month of August, it confirms that chapter 1123 will be just the second and last official release for the series of the month.
When it comes to chapter 1122, however, fans likely won’t need to wait until after the Obon week holiday for spoilers, as they typically come in the week before the holiday for Oda’s series specifically. While this is the case historically, it’s liable to change at any point in time, given the illicit nature of the manga’s spoiler process.
Oda’s manga series began in July 1997 and has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump manga publication since its inception. The manga is currently progressing through its Final Saga, with the latest estimates from Oda putting its ultimate conclusion as happening sometime in the next two years.
