With One Piece Day having officially begun in Japan on Saturday, August 10, 2024, One Piece Live Action Season 2 star Iñaki Godoy shared a celebratory message for the event. The message was shared via the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the live action adaptation of author and illustrator Eiichiro Oda’s original manga series of the same name.
The message from the One Piece Live Action Season 2 star is particularly unique as Godoy speaks in Japanese from what seems to be the interior of the series’ Going Merry set. Godoy also promises that he’ll be in Japan soon, emphasizing that he’s practicing his Japanese every day amidst filming of the second season to visit Japan once production is done.
One Piece Live Action Season 2 star teases visit to Japan after filming in new message
Unfortunately, there isn’t any new One Piece Live Action Season 2 information revealed by Godoy in the video. However, as mentioned above, the video appears to be shot from inside of the Going Merry set, which is exciting to see as it suggests the shoot is moving along quite quickly. Likewise, Godoy also reconfirms that filming for the second season is ongoing in Cape Town, South Africa, with it being previously reported as having begun in June 2024.
Godoy also teases that the series will see the crew enter the Grand Line in its upcoming second season, ending the video by saying “next stop, the Grand Line.” While this may not be as informative as fans were hoping for, it’s exciting to see Godoy taking a central role in both promoting the franchise overall and the live action series specifically. Likewise, his striving towards an appearance in Japan after filming is encouraging in the same fashion.
Thankfully, fans shouldn’t have to wait too long for the next update on Season 2, with the official X account for the series teasing a Geeked Week 2024 presence. This will likely be where the first trailer for the anime’s second season is revealed, as well as a general release window, if not full-fledged release date.
Previously reported information also claims that the third season for the series is being filmed back-to-back with the second. In turn, this could play a role in the information fans get during Geeked Week 2024, with a release date for both the second and third season possibly coming. While this would certainly be a unique choice, the series is racing against the clock somewhat, which could motivate such a decision.
Netflix’s One Piece Live Action series first premiered in August 2023 with an eight-episode season, and was generally well received by fans. While some choices were panned by the fandom at large, the show was generally considered a success, and renewed for a sequel just weeks after its premiere.
