Tuesday, September 24, 2024, saw a new interview with the two newest One Piece Live Action season 2 stars posted to the series’ official X (formerly Twitter) account. The interview, lasting roughly 4-and-a-half minutes, sees Joe Manganiello and Lera Abova speaking with showrunner Matt Owens, as they discuss their castings and the characters they’ll play.

One Piece Live Action season 2 will see Manganiello play Baroque Works’ Mr. 0, AKA Sir Crocodile, while Abova will play the criminal organization’s Miss All Sunday, AKA Nico Robin. The pair were recently announced for the roles during Netflix’s Geeked Week 2024.

This official announcement was prefaced by an unintentional announcement on Netflix’s official website, which was quickly edited after being caught by the franchise’s fandom.

One Piece Live Action season 2’s latest interview has fans falling further in love with Manganiello, Abova

Following introductions, the latest One Piece Live Action season 2 interview begins with Owens calling the pair the “perfect people” to be playing their respective roles. Manganiello discusses how he’s “fallen in love with the world” of the series, calling Owens’ live-action adaptation “groundbreaking.”

He adds that it’s a project “run by people who love it,” while Abova praises the series for bringing the characters to life by showing the connection between them.

Owens responds to the pair by describing how Manganiello was “the only person in [his] mind” for the role of Crocodile, adding that as soon as he saw Abova’s tape, he was set on her.

Owens then asked the pair how they dived into the series and characters after being cast. Manganiello shared how he had several different versions of Crocodile to look at while going through the material to make the character feel real to him.

Manganiello then discussed how he feels that Crocodile can be the flip side of the coin from Luffy, representing a “dark potential future… if he’s affected or allows the trauma of defeat to infect him.” Abova then explained how she uses dream work as an acting method, and how it allowed her to feel Robin’s pain before she even knew a significant amount about her.

She adds that she has since learned a significant amount about the character and feels like she deeply understands her and the series. The interview ended with Manganiello saying he wants to do the best job he possibly can to honor “all those fans, and Oda, and [Owens],” as well as everyone else involved with the series’ 25+ year history.

Fans are generally excited in the wake of this interview, sharing how they can’t wait to see how the two bring their characters to life. There are also some specifically praising Manganiello’s words and presence in the interview, as well as fierce defenses for both him and Abova:

“Joe Manganiello read the manga , amazing!” praised one fan.
“Can't wait for season 2, fighting for all the actors and crews!” shared another.
“They're both perfect. Screw anyone who's hating on Lera. We love her.,” proclaimed a third.

Fans, already excited for the upcoming One Piece Live Action season 2, are even more so, following the latest words from Manganiello and Abova.
