Following the success of the Oshi no Ko anime, the series' popularity has helped the manga achieve another new milestone, as it has reached a total of 7 million copies in circulation. This is a huge rise considering how the manga's circulation was previously increasing very slowly.

Oshi no Ko, written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, follows the lives of a doctor and a recently deceased patient. Both get reincarnated as twin siblings of the popular Japanese pop idol Ai from B-Komachi. However, considering how the idol industry operated, Ai had to hide the fact that she had children.

Oshi no Ko manga has 7 million copies in circulation

While the Oshi no Ko manga began in April 2020, the series only reached a circulation count of 3 million copies by March 2022. Later, in March 2023, the series reached 5 million copies in circulation. However, after the anime's premiere in April, as reported in Weekly Young Jump issue #24, the manga has now reached 7 million copies in circulation with 11 volumes.

The series has seen a meteoric rise in the industry as not only has the circulation count increased drastically, but the manga has also become the fifth hottest manga in Shueisha's MANGA Plus. Meanwhile, the anime managed to be at the top of MyAnimeList for a couple of weeks after dethroning Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

How fans reacted to the milestone

Fans were glad that the series had managed to reach 7 million copies in circulation as with the popularity of the series, the numbers would only go higher. Thus, fans congratulated the series creators and hoped for the best in the future.

Meanwhile, other fans were glad that the manga was doing well, as they themselves had come to like the series through the anime. Knowing that, the manga was doing well, only meant good for the anime watchers.

One fan of the series from Japan even revealed how the manga sales would only skyrocket after they noticed how the stocks in manga stores in Japan had almost ended. Thus, when the manga would reprint, there is a good chance of a meteoric rise.

As for other anime fans, they compared the series' sales to some other series, such as Spy X Family, Attack on Titan, and The Promised Neverland. While Spy X Family and Attack on Titan had seemingly outsold Oshi no Ko when they had published 11 volumes each, The Promised Neverland managed to reach the same number of copies in circulation.

While they attempted to diminish Oshi no Ko's achievement, it was bound to be considering that Aka Akasaka's series was a seinen series.
