Friday, September 20, 2024, saw The Pokémon Company begin streaming a trailer for the upcoming Rayquaza Rising arc in the television Pokémon Horizons anime series. In addition, the staff also revealed three cast members who will voice characters in the upcoming arc, with these characters specifically being from the Pokémon Scarlet/Violet video game.
The new trailer for the Pokémon Horizons anime primarily focuses on introducing both these new characters, as well as one of the new titular creatures set to appear in the arc. There’s also a brief preview of the arc’s setting in the beginning, which is presumed to be the town of Kitakami from the Scarlet/Violet video game’s DLC expansion pack “The Teal Mask.”
Pokémon Horizons anime casts Attack on Titan’s Annie Leonhardt, My Hero Academia’s Himiko Toga, and more
The three new cast members revealed for the Pokémon Horizons anime are Marika Kono as Sazare (Perrin in English), Yu Shimamura as Briar, and Misato Fukuen as Seille (Carmine in English). Kono is likely best known as Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World’s Petra Leyte, while Shimamura and Fukuen are best recognized as Attack on Titan’s Annie Leonhart and My Hero Academia’s Himiko Toga, respectively.
The three are presumably characters from Kitakami considering the series previously confirmed that the new arc will feature characters from this in-game location. Likewise, it’s presumed that the shots of a town that precede the trailer’s focus on these new characters highlight the town of Kitakami. The trailer also highlights the Pokémon Kleavor, which is an alternate final evolution of Scyther (with the other, original final evolution being Scizor).
The Rayquaza Rising arc will also feature the titular Legendary Pokémon in its Shiny variant form, which sees its green body rendered in black instead. A Shiny refers to an extremely rare alternate colorway of the Pokémon in question. Shiny Pokémon are farmable in-game, with odds of encountering one in each Pokémon battle ranging from 1 in 64 to 1 in 2,000+ depending on the game, event, and Pokémon in question.
The fourth arc for the Pokémon Horizons anime is set to premiere in Japan on Friday, October 11, 2024, in the series’ usual 6:55 pm Japanese Standard Time slot. The anime originally premiered in April 2023 with a one-hour first-episode special. The anime is also streaming on Netflix in the United States, with three parts currently available and a fourth set to be available starting on November 22.
The series is notably the first without Ash Ketchum as its protagonist, replacing him with brand new dual protagonists Liko and Roy. The series features the ninth-generation starters from the Scarlet and Violet games, Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Sprigatito. However, franchise mascot Pikachu is still involved in the form of Captain Pikachu, who with trainer Friede, forms a Pokémon professor and Pokémon duo that battles alongside Liko and Roy.
