Raven of the Inner Palace creator's Wuyi no Hana manga adaptation officially announced

Sunday, January 5, 2025 saw the announcement of a Wuyi no Hana manga series, adapting Raven of the Inner Palace creator Koko Shirakawa’s original novel series of the same name. The series is set in the same world as Shirakawa’s better-known Raven novel series, calling it a “coming-of-age story” but offering no additional details.

The news regarding the Wuyi no Hana manga series comes in the February issue of Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace magazine. Notably, Shirakawa’s Raven of the Inner Palace novel series was serialized by Shueisha, whereas the new manga adaptation and other spinoff novel Wadatsumi no Musume come from Kodansha.

The Wuyi no Hana manga adaptation is set to begin in Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace magazine sometime in 2025. As mentioned above, the series will adapt Raven of the Inner Palace creator Koko Shirakawa’s original novel series of the same name. The first novel of the same name was published through Kadokawa in April 2024, with the second volume set to ship from Kadokawa on January 24, 2025.

The manga adaptation will be illustrated by Yoshinori Kisaragai, the artist behind the Your Forma manga series. However, the manga is crediting the novel series’ illustrator Taku Haruno for the original character designs within, suggesting no major aesthetic changes are currently planned. While Shirakawa will presumably be credited as the manga’s author, it’s unclear how involved she will be in the manga adaptation’s production.

What fans know is the rough story path the Wuyi no Hana manga will take as an adaptation of the original novels. The original novel series follows an eccentric but brilliant shaman who travels a Chinese fantasy world with her fiancé, solving mysteries and the like. As mentioned above, the series is set in the same world as Raven of the Inner Palace but isn’t said to be a direct sequel or prequel of any kind.

Shirakawa has, however, distinguished the subject matter and focus of each series, including a third set in the world titled Wadatsumi no Musume. The Raven story is meant to serve as a dark fantasy, while Wuyi no Hana is intended as a coming-of-age story, and Wadatsumi no Musume is intended as a historical epic. As mentioned above, all three take place in the same world despite each coming from a different publisher (Shueisha, Kadokawa and Kodansha).

Kisaragi’s Your Forma manga was launched in the Young Ace magazine in June 2021, ending in September 2023. Yen Press publishes the series in English, with one of the manga’s three compilation volumes available in English and two more being released later in the year. A television anime adaptation of the series by Geno Studio is set to premiere in Japan in April 2025.
