Friday, October 11, 2024, saw the official X account for the Sk8 the Infinity original anime series reveal its OVA project’s Wednesday, March 19, 2025, release date. This was announced via a new promotional video for the OVA, which was also released alongside a new key visual.
In addition, the Sk8 the Infinity OVA was announced as receiving early theatrical screenings for a limited time across 10 theaters in Japan. The theatrical screenings will begin on Friday, January 24, 2025. As of this article’s writing, there’s no information on how long these Japanese theatrical screenings will last, nor on any international theatrical release.
Sk8 the Infinity OVA to air all four episodes in March 2025
The new trailer for the Sk8 the Infinity OVA highlights lasts for roughly 15 seconds, primarily focusing on the various central characters in the series. No dialogue is heard here, with music from the series instead playing in the background. Nothing else significant occurs in the incredibly short preview. The key visual features Miya Chinen, Langa Hasegawa, and Reki Kyan all striking a pose.
The OVA is made up of four episodes in total. These are titled Ame to Neko Conbini Ice Soda Aji, Maji de Maji ni Nareru Koto, Morning Routine, and Ganbare Hiromi-chan! The OVA will see the original television anime series’ main staff from season 1 return and reunite. This includes Hiroko Utsumi returning to direct at BONES, Ichiro Okouchi overseeing the series scripts, and Michinori Chiba designing the characters.
Unfortunately, there’s not any other significant information available on the new upcoming project as of this article’s writing. However, fans can expect a formal trailer to come sometime in the next few weeks given the OVA’s early theatrical screenings in January. This should also reveal returning and new cast members, additional staff, the OVA’s theme song(s), and more.
What’s unlikely to come anytime soon is information on the second season’s production. Significant updates on the sequel likely won’t be shared until the OVA’s formal release date of March 19, 2025, has passed. Likewise, fans shouldn’t expect the second season’s arrival until late 2025 at the earliest, with a 2026 release being much more realistic.
The anime’s first season premiered on ABC TV and TV Asahi’s “Animazing!!!” block in January 2021. Likewise, the OVA’s theatrical release will mark the first new material for the series in three years. The now defunct Funimation streaming service streamed the series as it aired in Japan and also began streaming an English dub in February 2021.
The first season followed Reki as he got caught up in “S,” an underground, lawless, and dangerous skateboard race through an abandoned mine. Langa has returned to Japan from Canada and never skateboarded before, also getting wrapped up in the race. The story follows them as they participate and meet a wide and colorful cast of characters.
