Thursday, September 19, 2024 saw Crunchyroll announce that it had acquired both the North American and select international rights for the Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- compilation and preview film. The movie, which was announced earlier this week alongside the mainline anime series’ second season release date, is set to hit United States and Canadian theaters on Friday, December 6, 2024.
The Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- anime film will serve as a recap of the anime’s first season, as well as a preview of the first two episodes from the upcoming second season. The second season is titled Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- and is set for a January 2025 release window per the latest available information.

As mentioned above, Crunchyroll confirmed that it also acquired select international rights for the Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- film’s distribution.
While only the North American release dates have been announced yet, it’s likely that Crunchyroll will announce additional international release dates at some point. However, these are certain not to be global, given the company’s emphasis on acquiring only select international rights for the film.
The film will first begin screening in Japan on Friday, November 29, 2024, just one week before debuting overseas. Likewise, both domestic Japanese and international viewers can expect the film to hit their regions, if it’s coming there, well before the premiere of the second season. That will both give fans a reason to see the film, and further entice potential new fans into tuning in for the television airing of the second season once it begins.
As of this article’s writing, it’s unclear what language format the Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- film will be imported with. Although an English dub is possible since Crunchyroll produced one for the first television anime season, the short gap in time from Japanese to international release suggests otherwise. Fans can expect this information to be finalized in the coming weeks and months as the film’s domestic and international premiere draw nearer.
The first season premiered in January 2023, running for 12 episodes. Apart from producing an English dub, Crunchyroll also streamed the series internationally with English subtitles as it aired weekly in Japan. Shunsuka Nakashige directed the anime series at A-1 Pictures, with Noboru Kimura serving as the head writer. Tomoko Sudo designed the characters, while Hiroyuki Sawano composed the music.
The series serves as the adaptation of the original Solo Leveling manhwa series from author Chugong and late artist DUBU, also known as Jang Sung-rak. The webtoon ran from March 2018 to December 2021. The series originally began as a web novel from Chugong, published to several websites throughout its serialization from July 2016 to December 2021.
