Monday, September 23, 2024 saw Spice & Wolf season 2 officially confirmed as in production by the official website for the television anime series following the season 1 finale's airing. Unfortunately, no additional info regarding season 2 such as a release window was shared, suggesting that fans won’t see the second season air anytime soon.

However, a key visual celebrating the announcement of Spice & Wolf season 2 was released alongside the news, featuring Holo grabbing Kraft Lawrence’s hand while running into a field. It’s expected that additional news regarding the second season will come before the 2024 calendar year ends, but it seems unlikely the series will air in 2025 at this time.

Spice & Wolf season 2 unlikely to begin airing until 2026 calendar year

Given the lack of a trailer for Spice & Wolf season 2’s announcement, it’s safe to presume that production on the sequel is in its very early, infantile stages. As a result, it seems unlikely that the second season will premiere during the '25 calendar year. This is especially likely if the second season will be a two continuous course run for a total of 25 episodes as the recently concluded first season was.

That being said, it is still possible if animation studio Passione seeks to prioritize the sequel as their next project. In this case, a mid- to late-2025 release window seems likely for the second season. Also likely influencing the production and release timetable for the series is what other responsibilities its starring cast members have in the meantime.

The first season of the Spice & Wolf anime debuted in April 2024 and aired for two consecutive courses for a total of 25 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired weekly in Japan, and also produced and streamed an English dub for the series. A completely new adaptation, the series saw specific casts from the original anime reprise their roles. This includes Jun Fukuyama as Kraft Lawrence, Ami Koshimizu as Holo, and Mai Nakahara as Norah Arendt.

Some staff also returned, such as Takeo Takahashi as the chief director for the series. Hijiri Sanpei directed the anime at Passione, with Kevin Penkin composing the music for the series, and ENISHIYA credited with producing it. Takahashi directed the original two anime seasons, with Naruhisa Arakawa writing its scripts. The first season aired from January to March 2008, and the second from July to September 2009, with Funimation releasing both on home video.

Spice & Wolf season 2 will serve as the continuation of the readaptation of author Isuna Hasekura and illustrator Ju Ayakura’s original light novel series of the same name. The light novel began in February 2006 and is still ongoing today. The light novel is published by ASCII Media Works under its Dengeki Bunko imprint.
