On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, 2024 APAC Content Showcase saw Disney and Lucasfilm exclusively unveil that Star Wars: Visions volume 3 will premiere in 2025. The animated anthology will be animated by nine different anime studios, including Production I.G., WIT Studio, TRIGGER, and Kinema Citrus Co.
Star Wars: Visions is an animated anthology television series produced by Lucasfilm for the American streaming service Disney+. The television series consists of original short films based in the Star Wars universe, with each episode being animated by a different studio. The television series has released two volumes with a third volume to be released in 2025.
Star Wars: Visions volume 3 set to be animated by nine different anime studios
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the 2024 Disney APAC Content Showcase saw Disney and Lucasfilm exclusively reveal that the animated anthology television series Star Wars: Visions is set to receive a third volume in 2025.
The critically acclaimed series first premiered in 2021, with nine short films produced by seven different Japanese anime studios. Following that, the second volume saw the television series take a global tour.
The second volume saw the series featuring animation across the animation studios across the world, namely D'art Shtajio (Japan), 88 Pictures (India), Aardman (The United Kingdom), Cartoon Saloon (Ireland), Triggerfish (Ireland/South Africa), El Guiri (Spain), Punkrobot (Chile), Studio La Cachette (France), Studio Mir (South Korea), and Lucasfilm (The United States).
However, for Star Wars: Visions volume 3, the series is returning to its anime roots with nine new anime short films slated to be animated by nine different anime studios.
Out of the nine anime studios, four studios are returning contributors from the first volume, while the remaining five are new contributors. The four returning anime studios are Kamikaze Douga, Kinema Citrus Co., Production I.G, and TRIGGER. Meanwhile, the three remaining studios, namely Studio Colorido, Geno Studio, and Science Saru will not return for the third volume.
The five new anime studios for Star Wars: Visions volume 3 are ANIMA (in co-production with Kamikaze Douga), David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q, and WIT Studio. With this move, the series expects to further demonstrate the diversity and creativity of Japanese animation.
