Arcane animation studio is interested in adapting Takehiko Inoue's Vagabond
On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Crunchyroll unveiled the details of their interview with Pascal Charrue, the co-founder of Fortiche, the French animation studio behind the highly popular show Arcane at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2024.
Following Fortiche's presentation of their new project "Penelope of Sparta," Crunchyroll spoke with Pascal Charrue to learn more about the studio and their anime inspirations.
During this, Crunchyroll asked Pascal Charrue what manga they would like to adapt into an animation with his team. The Fortiche co-founder revealed that he was interested in adapting Takehiko Inoue's Vagabond manga series with his team.
He considered Inoue's work a masterpiece with incredible depth and stunning artwork. Thus, the manga series would be fascinating to bring to life in animation. Pascal Charrue also mentioned Naoki Urasawa's works but was aware that those had already received some adaptations.
Pascal Charrue added that when considering a manga to adapt, he believed it was essential to find those series that would genuinely benefit from being animated. This is because a manga's pacing which is controlled by a reader does not always translate well when adapted into an animation.
This might be why several highly acclaimed series often get criticized when given anime adaptations as they fail to do justice to the manga in question. That could also be one of the reasons why no animation studio has adapted the Vagabond manga series into an anime till now.
That said, the Fortiche co-founder has only expressed his interest in adapting Takehiko Inoue's manga series, and in no way has he hinted at the same happening. Fans can only hope for Vagabond's publishing company Kodansha to take note of the interest and take steps to make the same a reality.
