On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, TOHO Animation conducted a special stream to announce new details about The Apothecary Diaries season 2. The anime is set to premiere on Friday, January 10, 2024, at 11 pm JST on Nippon TV's FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT programming block. The anime will air for two consecutive cours.
This announcement was made with the anime's new key visual that features the series's two main characters Maomao and Jinshi. The two characters are seemingly walking in the corridors of the Imperial Palace at night with the moon and stars shining brightly behind them.
As for the second promotional video, it showcases scenes from the upcoming season, previewing what is to happen in the story ahead. Similar to the first season, Jinshi is set to ask Maomao to help him investigate mysterious cases surrounding poison, and as usual, Maomao gives in to the request after realizing how fascinating the new mystery is.
Following that, the promotional video hinted at a great tragedy that was about to befall Imperial China. While not a lot is revealed about the upcoming story arc, it seems like the story arc is related to a war as many soldiers could be seen horseriding through what looks like a desert.
Lastly, the promotional video saw Maomao suggesting that the new incident was very similar to the incident that took place at the end of the previous season. As fans might remember, the previous season ended with Lakan trying to kill Jinshi through a very orchestrated plan and Maomao saving him.
Thus, with Maomao suggesting that the new incident is similar to the one before, fans could soon witness another orchestrated plan, which will see someone's life be put at risk.
Lastly, the anime also revealed the new character visuals for Maomao, Jinshi, Gyokuyou, Gaoshun, and Xiaolan.
