The staff for the upcoming The Blue Wolves of Mibu anime series confirmed the series’ October 2024 release date with the release of its first promotional video on Monday, July 1, 2024. Alongside this information and the first PV, a concept movie and key visual were revealed, and an additional cast for the anime series was officially announced.

Per the latest info, The Blue Wolves of Mibu anime will officially premiere in Japan on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 5:30 pm JST on the YTV and NTV channels and their affiliates. YTV is also screening the world premiere of the series early this Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 10:30 am PDT at the Anime Expo 2024 event in Los Angeles, California.

The Blue Wolves of Mibu anime brings on Kenjiro Tsuda, Kikunosuke Toya, Yuichiro Umehara, as new cast

The newly announced cast for The Blue Wolves of Mibu anime series includes Kenjiro Tsuda as Nagakura Shinpachi, Ryota Iwasaki as Harada Sanosuke, Kengo Kawanishi as Yamanami Keisuke, Kikunosuke Toya as Todo Heisuke, Noriaki Sugiyama as Inoue Genzaburo, Yuichiro Umehara as Niimi Nishiki, Tomohiro Ono as Noguchi Kenji, Yu Maeda as Hirama Jusuke, Kenji Nomura as Hirayama Goro, Sayuri Sadaoka as Granny, and Yuko Natsuyoshi as Chirinu Iroha.

The above group will join the previously announced starring cast, Shuichiro Umeda as protagonist Nio, Yohei Azakami as Hijikata Toshizo, Kensho Ono as Okita Soji, Chiaki Kobayashi as Saito Hajime, Shun Horie as Tanaka Taro, Ryota Takeuchi as Serizawa Kamo, and Tomokazu Sugita as Kondo Isami. The newly released key visual features Nio and these other characters in their Shinsengumi uniforms.

The concept movie is produced in a black-and-white manner with several stylistic choices, such as the blurring of scenes into each other as it primarily highlights the anime’s action. This eventually translates into a color look at the series, highlighting Nio and the other central characters of the cast. Only a scant bit of dialogue is heard in the movie’s opening scenes, with the rest of it instead featuring what seems to be part of the anime’s official soundtrack.

Kumiko Habara is directing The Blue Wolves of Mibu anime at Maho Film, with Kenta Ihara in charge of the series scripts. Yuko Oba and Miyako Nishida are designing the characters, while Toshiki Kameyama is the sound director. Finally, Yuki Hayashi composed the music.

The series will adapt author and illustrator Tsuyoshi Yasuda’s original manga series of the same name. Yasuda’s manga first began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in October 2021, where it is still regularly serialized and ongoing today. The manga has been collected into 14 volumes as of this article’s writing, with two having been translated into English and another two slated for English release.
