Friday, October 11, 2024, saw The Colors Within anime film officially announce its United States theatrical release date of January 24, 2025. Unfortunately, no other full international release dates for the film were announced alongside the United States one. However, the film does have confirmed release windows for North America, Latin America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand for a Winter 2024 release.

This was announced via an English-subtitled trailer for The Colors Within anime film, which is being produced by Science SARU and directed by Naoko Yamada. The film opened in Japanese theaters on Friday, August 30, 2024. It was originally planned for a Fall 2023 release but was later delayed to 2024.

The English-subtitled trailer for The Colors Within anime film focuses on its central three characters, showing how they meet and form a band together. The trailer also highlights their struggles in their everyday lives with school, family, and more. The primary focus is given to protagonist Totsuko Higurashi, but Kimi Sakunaga and Rui Kagehira also have a significant presence. GKIDS also confirmed that the film would get an English dub.

As mentioned above, the film has been confirmed for international screenings in multiple regions. GKIDS will screen the film in all of the above-mentioned regions besides Europe. In Europe, PLAION PICTURES will screen the film in Italian- and German-speaking territories, while CHARADES will handle the rest of Europe, as well as Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand alongside GKIDS.

The film is still currently screening in Japan, with 51 IMAX theaters showing it. It earned 97,739,500 yen, or roughly US$680,200, in its first three days in Japanese theaters. Sanami Suzuki launched a manga adaptation of the film on Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype platform on July 16. The film was directed at Science SARU studios by Naoko Yamada, with Story Inc. credited as planner and producer.

Reiko Yoshida wrote the script and kensuke ushio composed the music for the series. DaisukeRichard drafted the original characters, with Takashi Kojima designing them. Kojima also directed the film’s animation. Mr. Children performs the film’s theme song, titled in the pocket. The film premiered at the Annecy International Film Festival in June 2024. It also won the Best Animation Film award at the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival in June.

The Colors Within anime film centers on Totsuki, a high school girl who attends a mission school in Nagasaki and can see the “colors” of the emotions in people’s hearts. In an effort to prevent her friends and family from feeling dark feelings, she does everything in her power with her ability to ensure their happiness, including lying. She meets Kimi and Rui in an antique bookshop one day, with the trio deciding to form a band after meeting each other.
