On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, The Rose of Versailles anime film announced that the MAPPA anime film will be released on Friday, January 31, 2025. Alongside this, the anime also unveiled four character visuals featuring the main characters from the series.
The Rose of Versailles, written and illustrated by Riyoko Ikeda, is a Japanese romance-drama manga. The series was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Margaret magazine from 1972 to 1973 and later revived and published between 2013 to 2018.

On Tuesday, October 5, 2024, the official X account of the new The Rose of Versailles anime film revealed that it will receive a nationwide roadshow in Japan starting from Friday, January 31, 2025.
This announcement was made alongside the reveal of four character visuals featuring the series' main characters - Oscar François de Jarjayes, Marie Antoinette, André Grandier, and Hans Axel von Fersen.
These four character visuals are seemingly set to be used as Mubichike Card Type Advance Ticket Visuals. The sale for the same will begin on Friday, October 11, 2024, exclusively at the window of the screening theater.
The Oscar François de Jarjayes visual shows the Commander of the Royal Guard wielding her sword fiercely in front of what looks like a fire. As for the Marie Antoinette visual, it shows the Austrian Princess in a beautiful blue dress, surrounded by countless red roses.
The André Grandier visual shows the protagonist leaning at what looks like a balcony looking at the waterbody behind him. Lastly, the Hans Axel von Fersen visual shows the Swedish Count looking at the leaves that are seemingly falling from the trees around him.
Ai Yoshimura will be directing the anime film at MAPPA. He has previously worked in Daily Lives of High School Boys and My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU.
Tomoka Konparu, who previously worked on Uta no Prince-sama - Maji Love 1000%, will be working on the script, and Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan) will serve as the music producer and will be responsible for music alongside Kohta Yamamoto (86:Eighty-Six).
As for the characters, they are designed by Mariko Oka. With the reveal of the character visuals, she also shared how the staff tried to give each character their own charm through the visuals. Andre tends to be simple but she tried to decorate him and depict his feelings for Oscar with his gaze and facial expressions. Lastly, Marika also expressed her desire to draw Oscar and Andre someday.
